I get this error when I start up. This is a fresh installation on 5.4.0f3 on a fresh installation of Windows 7 Pro (brand new computer, in fact).

Checking in the Editor.log file I see this.

    Code (CSharp):
    1. Direct3D:
    2.     Version:  Direct3D 11.0 [level 11.0]
    3.     Renderer: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (ID=0x1b81)
    4.     Vendor:   NVIDIA
    5.     VRAM:     8085 MB
    6. Failed to query D3D11 context for ID3DUserDefinedAnnotation interface (hr = 0x80004002)
    7. (Filename: C:/buildslave/unity/build/Runtime/GfxDevice/d3d11/GfxDeviceD3D11.cpp Line: 871)
    8.
I see that this error was reported during the 5.4 beta period, but I don't see that any resolution to the problem was ever posted.

So far this error seems benign, but then I haven't tried doing anything serious in this new installation yet.

It is indeed benign. It happens on Windows 7 machines which don't have windows updates installed. It was fixed in one of the upcoming 5.4 patch releases.

Thank you! And yes, I have not applied any updates to the system yet, so that seems to explain it.

Very odd, I have been using 5.4.0f3 for a while and I was using Animations in my project and everything was perfect. Today I added a few animations and suddenly I started getting this error.
    Currently using Windows 10.
It does not seem to be causing any problem, but it is quite annoying.

Can you update to 5.4.1? It's been fixed there.

Has this been resolved yet? I am getting the same error after installing the latest version.
