When I have a large script machine on an object and I click on that object the editor drops down to 1 fps making it unusable. Only on objects with large script machines and only affects if inspector is actively open. Problem has always occured with larger scripts both in unity 2021.2.8f1 and 2022.2.11f1

That's just the nature of current IMGUI implementation. Nothing much you can do besides upgrading your machine or waiting for them to releasee the next major version of Visual Scripting, which will have a different, more performant UI technology.

It has nothing to do with my machine. When i upgraded from an i5, 16 gb ram, gtx 1050ti to a 5600x, 32gb ram, rtx 3060ti I saw no performance improvements in the editor.

IMGUI is IMGUI. It has performance issues on all PCs, you just come across them quicker with a weaker machine. Since you have a capable PC, either you split your graphs into smaller ones or wait for them to ship Visual Scripting that'll replace IMGUI with UI Toolkit in a year or two.

Just fold (little arrows) up anything in the inspector to do with VScripting, ie. script machine, variables.
