Hello, I'm a total noob when it comes to Unity and needs some help. My professor is having us learn the software and I was assigned as an animator. He however has never done any animating in Unity so I had to learn it on my own. So, I created an animation using bones successfully however, I'm having a hard time exporting it and importing it into a new project. I figured out how to get the sprite, the controller, and the animation over, but I can't get the bones to export. Is there something I need to have checked or done in order to get them into another project?

You will want to select all of the bones and "bake" the animation. This looks a bit different depending on what program you are using but look in the documentation for "baking keys" or perhaps "baking simulation". Once you have the animation baked out to the bones you will want to export as an .fbx. Insure that when you are exporting the animation you have the export animation checkbox on as it may not be by default. Bring that .fbx file into Unity and then you will have to setup your avatar and name the clip. Then there is the animation controller... on and on.
Just start by baking the animation and getting it into unity.

I apologize, I should have been clear about the software. I used Unity to place the bones onto the sprite before animating it in Unity. However, when I try to import the sprite, animation, controller, and bones to another project it does not include the bones.

Is there a way to bake the animation in Unity?

    Solved:

I needed to add a animation rig and make sure the bone 1 had an animator on it.
