Whenever i open a project or start a new one, i can see the bar at the top with file, edit, assets etc but the rest of the screen is fully pink.
Not just the gameview.....everything. i can open unity windows like settings and stuff, but again everything is purple so i have no clue what to click

tried other versions, tried full de/reinstalls tried resetting layout to factory settings, nothing seems to help :( any ideas???

Sounds like an issue with your computer. What are your computer specs, especially the graphics card, and are you running recent graphics drivers?

Might help to show a screen shot, and take a look for any errors reported in the editor log file.

Your hardware is old but not that old. Do you have the latest up to date drivers for your graphics card?

I found a solution which works for me, if you are using a vpn disable it. That's it. Solution from the below thread, seems to happen most commonly with nordVPN.

so now that i revisit the editors log i found some things

Native extension for iOS target not found
Native extension for Android target not found
Native extension for WebGL target not found
Native extension for WindowsStandalone target not found
Launched and connected shader compiler UnityShaderCompiler.exe after 0.25 seconds

Shader error in 'Hidden/BlitCopy': failed to open source file: 'HLSLSupport.cginc' at line 12 (on d3d11)

that last error being repeated a ton of times, see editor file in my earlier reply

do you guys think unity might install itself in the wrong place so it simply cant find certain parts of itself? or what might cause it to not be able to open the source file?

How is your folder structure guys???

in my D: partition i have:
    - a unity folder which is empty? from an old install i assume? or do i need this?
    - a unity hub
    - the 2019 version
    - the 2020 version

    is this ok?
should the versions be inside the unity or hub folder? or is it correct that its loose in program files?
