    Hello All,

I have been following a basic introduction tutorial on how to learn Unity online and things have been going great! It's been extremely fun tinkering around. That was until today.

After last night when I saved and exited my game editor and called it a night. However, when I tried to hop back on tonight, my editor was super laggy, which is odd as it never really is. Then when I tried to launch my project it was running at >1fps and almost crashed Unity.

I have tried optimizing my editor as much as possible with no results. My CPU when running usually is at 60% with Visual Studio open, now it ranges between 70% - 85%. It has never done this before and has normally run super smoothly. How can I fix it so that way I can get back to my project?

I'm completely new to this so let me know if I should upload anything to help with solving any issues. Thanks! :)

What editor version? Machine specs? Any software installed that may interfere, such as a virus scanner?

By launch you mean entering playmode?

CPU usage % in Task Manager going from 60 to 80% has practically no meaning without in depth analysis, specifically what process is using how much etc. Even at 80% the CPU isn‘t fully utilized and thus the system ought to be responsive. If it were 100% all the time it would indicate a process that blocks the CPU but that isn‘t the case here.

I suspect a background process here, either within Unity itself (lightmap baking?) or VS (Intellisense update) or some other process (virus scan, running out of memory and Windows starting to swap to disk).

Im using the 2022.3.7f1 Unity editor and I only run the editor along with Visual Studio (the latest version) and Windows Defender. Everything that starts up by default is turned off and all of the windows settings has been optimized for a faster response from my computer.

    My specs are:
    • Motherboard: ASRock 970A-G/3.1
    • CPU: AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six-Core Processor, 3500 Mhz 3 Cores, 6 Logical Processors
    • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050
    • Ram: 8.00 GB
And yes, my problems are that when I launch my project and to be played in Gameveiw it breaks down like I said. Do you think it may be because my system is too old? But I'm not too sure if that would be it since it worked okay before.

You could create a new empty or one of the template projects to see if it also runs slower than expected. If so, the issue is likely with the system or that particular editor version (and maybe the system). If not, the issue is more likely to be with that particular project, typically caused by a script.

    +1 to the above reply.
Plus a quicker first test could just be creating a new empty scene in your current project and "playing" that.
If that works - you know the issue is with whatever is in your scene, likely a script.
