Editor font got smaller/worse?

I have noticed the font seems to be narrower now in the editor (Windows 10) but it often looks worse and is harder to read so what was the reasoning?
Some letters get pushed together while all letters are harder to read as more compressed, yet little extra space seems to be made by the narrowing of the letters



Edit - this does not always show like this - maybe just a bug with the text scaling for 4k - mostly the 2018 looks as per 2017

 

what on earth causes this? Had it happen again and will not go on a project?
