editing Source of Packages directly?

Hi I need to edit the source of the Unet package, so far it worked quite well.

However I wonder if something bad could happen, except for a package update, which would override those changes?

I'm curious to know if this is a package that you have had embedded (where you made a copy of the source code and put it under the `Packages` folder)
