I am now reading the source code for the UnityTest Tools, specifically the assets that I needed to install in order to test. It is for version 5.4 of Unity3D engine.

And yes I know I can download version 5.6 with already integrated test tools.

I see several classes connected to it, DTOFormatter.cs, ResultDTO.cs.
DTOFormatter.cs includes two subclasses Reader and Writer and there are functions like Serialize() and Deserialize() which means this has to do something with serialization.

This question is a bit hard core and I don't expect general public to know this, but what does the abbreviation DTO means?

Yes, I searched Google with "DTOFormatter c#" but I didn't get any useful info. It turns out, it is more general word, not related to C# or Unity3D themselves.

    Thanks.

To be fair, searching DTOFormatter gives me this question as the top result, along with a bunch of references to the DTOFormatter class. Nothing that defines what DTO stands for. Searching DTO itself does define it, but also shows a ton of other meanings, with no clear indication of which one the class is referring to. That's the problem when searching for the meaning of a 3 letter acronym. It seems perfectly reasonable to come here to the Unity forums to ask about a Unity class.

Yes, if I recall Microsoft developers/engineers tend to use these abbreviations, and name their software like DAO which stands for Data Access Object. I have seen DAO before but DTO was new to me. ;)
