Double clicking on a gameobject should take me to its position, but when I open visual studio there is no response from double clicking on the gameobject or double clicking on the error doesn't take me to that line in visual studio. If visual studio is closed double clicking on gameobjects or folders works fine.
Additionally I just realised the double click sometimes does not work even when visual studio is closed.

I am having this issue as well, no double clicking in editor. I realized this first when trying to open scripts, but then also could not get into any of my Mecanim state machines or double click an object in scene. If I restart Unity I am able to double click things for a short period of time, but usually within one or two double clicks that register correctly, it is back to not working.

Having Visual Studio open or closed has no difference for me. I tried a system restart, but it was the same behavior as a Unity restart, double click works briefly then stops.

This is very annoying and makes Unity more-or-less unusable, you cannot even enter an Animator state machine without double clicking...

Further research and stumbling on this thread fixed for me. For anyone else, if you have NVIDIA GeForce Experience on your machine disable the share settings. Unity now makes it two applications in as many days that GeForce Experience has briefly rendered unusable, so anyone experience problems I would start there.
