Has Unity considered adding a spell checker to the text components.

Ideally an text and grammar checker.

They can't add everything and the kitchen sink. How the hell could you expect them to add a spell checker? And maintain it in how many languages? And then you'll want a grammar checker too?

This is exactly what third-party solutions are for.

But that should not effect the ability of UT to add a simple spell checker to their IDE, most notepad style apps have one. They can probably throw one together or buy a compatible and supported solution.

They could put language dictionaries on the asset store ect.

They could even add it into the UI so we could use it as well, but probably best to wait till Unity 5 as then it can be an additional module.

I agree with @JAKJ; this doesn't seem like something Unity should have/ support. In addition, something like this would cause so many distracting red scribbles all over the place:

"As the Xards moved into the Ka'el stronghold, the Tardos faction began preparing their assault on Sartis Pilaq"

And then there's the issue of writing long pieces of text in MonoDevelop too; should that be checked as well?

If there is really a need for this is Unity, I think it would/ should be a community-built asset for the Asset Store.

So you're saying it just needs a project dependent Add word feature, and an off button!

Unity has better things to do with its time than maintain a spellchecker dictionary in a bajillion languages. Unity has better things to spend its money on (which by extension is *your* money and *my* money) than licensing a spellchecker dictionary in a bajillion languages.

If spelling is a true concern, kill two birds with one stone.

Move all your strings to a language file, this makes localization easier.
It also allows you to add fancy things, like automatic %PLAYER_NAME% replacement with the current player name.

You can then import / export to a column based text file, or xml whatever floats your boat.
Then you can fix all the strings in one go, without even needing to bother the programmer or whomever changes your unity scenes.

In a smaller setup, just type the text in your favorite spell checker, then copy/paste the checked string into the game.
Should Unity chrash for whatever reason, you would still have all your precious spell-checked strings ready to go.
