It's true, nobody sane would ever choose willingly to be a game developer.

Trying to eliminate the competition, aren't you?
    Nice try.

Listening to somebody's advice is not the right way to have fun in life.

    Here are a few
    • Moving my first cube
    • Completing a game
    • Making my first game sale
    • Discussing game design with the creators of crossy road
    • Getting to 100 views on YouTube
    • Getting to 1,000 views on YouTube
    • Getting to 100,000 views on YouTube
    • Being approached by randoms on the forum for specific help
    • Being offered payment for that help
    • Being designated as the official unity expert in my game jam group
    • Getting paid
    • Getting approached for contracts
    • Having to turn down freelance contracts because there is more work then you can do
I suppose the next big milestone would be quitting my day job and going full time freelance. Or perhaps joining a game studio as a full time employee. We'll see how it goes.

Do it for fun instead of money - then you'll be happy about every dime you make, instead of being frustrated for every million you don't earn...

Get rid of some idea guys in your team and you'll have more than enough money to do game development.

Reasons of not doing game development:
    1. Several bugs will show up
    2. Will take several years to create a AAA game.
    3. Crunch Time
    4. Bankrupt
    5. There is no number 5.

Generally true. But the opposite isn't always true. Just because something is hard do doesn't make it worth doing.

Most things are harder than netflix. How hard something is ... is hard to work out relatively!

But it's hard to not drink beer, and this is worth doing more.

Drinking beer is not as much fun as not needing to drink beer to have fun. Find a way, maybe your design and implementation of a game is that way but of course you must be choosing to implement your game in a way that you find fun.

Darn and now I want a beer and there is a foot of snow outside.

I'll probably never meet any of you, but I'm glad to have known all you crazy people. I think Erich and Hippo were the first people to help me with noob questions when I first started the forum. Am I nuttier for wanting to be as talented as the rest of you? o_O

Obviously don't understand the difference between a joke and trolling, irrelevant of whether or not it was actually that funny..

    Anyway.... On topic.

If you can make games of reasonable quality in correlation to competition, you are obviously smart and coherent enough to be successful in many other professions.. It's nothing to do with sanity, courageous and passionate fits the bill. You could of obviously took the easy path...

So I salute those who dare to try and ward anyone who thinks it’s a walk in the park.
