This is my first fourm post, so I apologize if this is the wrong place for this lol.

So I want to use to Atom script editor for the editor in Unity. I connected them, but when I try to open scripts it just does nothing... idk if I did it wrong or if it's not possible...? Any insight is helpful

Edit -> Preferences -> External Tools -> External Script Editor -> Select Atom,

aside, what do you mean with "it just does nothing"?
We need a bit more information :)

Yes, I did the above. As far as "it just does nothing" I mean... well, it literally does nothing. I click "Edit Script", the mouse turns into a loading symbol for a second... and nothing happens. Even when I click the actual scrip in "Assets" and click open. I could just be doing something wrong lol, I'm a complete noob at Unity.

Also, when I say nothing happens I mean nothing's happened. The rest of the interface works fine just as before, not like it freezes or anything.

Hmm that problem sound more like a problem with your Editor then with Unity,

can you open the Editor outside of Unity?

Yeah, probably... I feel like I'm missing something (probably something stuipid, lol, again I am noob) but I just cannot find out what. Yes, it works fine... I even completely removed it from my computer and then reinstalled. Idk.

Ok! So I think I've got that working... I'm not sure exactly how, lol, but I think doing this -> https://forum.unity.com/threads/atom-editor-with-unity.482228/ did something. But now I have a quesiton... is it supposed to load with default code like I see in all the Unity tutorials? If so, it's not doing that

Atom may not be set up well for Unity development...it may need some extensions or packages installed. Visual Studio is definitely recommended instead, as the developers have been focusing on it for awhile now. I would make the switch.

I see your point, but I do know of a lot of people who use Atom... and I am way too stubborn ;P I'll use Visual Studio as a backup, but not until I'm sure Atom won't work... ;P

Atom may not import settings for unity, like Visual Studio or Visual Code does. These have packages you can install to get it working for unity. Atom may also have dependencies you need to install to get it to work.
