I think avarars can really set the tone of the person posting it. Which is why I am considering replacing mine with one where I don't look so stern haha.

Does mine give off the impression that I like to sniff my own butt and hate mailmen?

No, English is not my first language. Extra points if you know who said that in what film.

Finally replaced my avatar. This one should do a decent job showing who I am. It's a little gif movie showing a bit of my current game project. Too bad it doesn't animate all the time right on these posts. That would be cool.

If by "cool" you mean "really irritating and would get me banned", then yes. ;)

Seriously?! I know it doesn't have excellent graphics but geesh that seems extreme. LOL! I suppose it would be kind of distracting if everyone had animated avatars like some sites do.

I'm constantly tempted to tell certain people how much I dislike their avatar and would they kindly change it please. I'm just that sort of person though.

Yes...that was the #1 improvement with the new forum as far as I was concerned (preventing animated avatars in the forum, I mean). ;) I like the compromise of allowing animation on the profile page. Anyway the graphics are fine; looks like a recreation of an old arcade game that I vaguely remember?

It probably just looks that way because it is definitely done in a retro presentation style. The game itself is all original. An action adventure across a 128-screen game world. Currently going through a redesign so some things are missing from the environment at the moment. Using your SpriteTile by the way. I started coding up the water animation and thought "ya know I bet he has animation support in this thing" and 2 lines of code later I had water surface animation. You did a heck of a job on that system.

Ooh, sounds neat. Now that I look at the animation again I see some screen scrolling.

    Thank you!

Each time someone quotes that post I feel more and more guilty about it. Must have been having a bad day.

How about if I say I simply struggle to remember people without an avatar. Brain just wired that way.

Were you saying that the forum is like a relationship, and the avatar is the engagement ring?

I see it the same way as you did on your bad day. It takes only a bit of time to throw something up. When people first arrive they have the "no avatar" avatar. If they rarely participate in the forum community they will probably not bother changing that. There are always exceptions of course.

Something amusing I just thought about: Despite the fact that I do judge people based on their avatar or lack thereof, I also know that some forum spam bots upload profile information and an avatar to look more legitimate. Apparently the bot knows me better than I knew myself.

I'm not fond of this new avatar. On my screen, it looks like a blue blob with a couple greenish pixels that hints vaguely at retro'ish game. It could be a boat moving over water, though it's WAY too tiny. My first impression was one of strong dislike, which was unusual for something as simple as an avatar image, which is also why I bothered to post about it. My apologies for being harsh.

No worries. I don't get offended easily and especially not in virtual realms. Lol I think the avatar itself as displayed next to the posts is worse but I like the little "movie" a lot more than the static image I had. In fact, I've watched it many times because I found it to be a great way to get my creativity going and think of new things to add.
