Do I need to renew my license every week?

    No matter what I do in Unity Hub (activate new license, manual activation, return license, check for updates) the license only extends for one week, is it normal? Thanks!

    Why my personal license extents for only one day each time I renew it? I checked "I don’t use Unity in a professional capacity." since I'm still a learner.

    @Solidcomer did you ever find what did this. Observing the same right now.

    I wonder what the rationale behind a weekly renewable license might be. Sure is a nag from my perspective. Now, when it turns to a daily license... ugh.

    maybe the idea is to annoy the personal license users every day, so some will give up and simply buy the license ;)

    To be honest, this is rather infuriating.

    Weekly renewal is already quite annoying.

    Seriously, everyday?

    I would hope to have the renewal to be at least monthly.

    I've used Chinese Unity Hub before, but now I switch to Global Unity Hub.

    There are the reasons I stop using Chinese Unity Hub:
    1. Can not install global Unity Editor(Can only install Chinese Unity Editor).
    2. Unreasonable UI layout("Community" on the top rather than "Project", but I never use "Community").
    3. Large-area advertising.
    4. Boring license activating strategy.

    No. I think it is not a bug, but a strategy!
    When I am using professional license, Unity Hub never bother me, and when I am using personal license, Unity Hub always tell me to renew my license.

    You're right. The Chinese version of Unity Hub is developed by a different team from the ROW product and has different terms of use. This said, I'm surprised to hear that even after switching to the ROW Hub, you're still expected to constantly renew your license.

    It is the expected behaviour if you are in China and/or using the Chinese version of Unity Hub.

    I'm currently having the same problem. Why is this the case?

    The only time this doesn't happen is if I don't exit Unity Editor, meaning leaving my laptop on sleep instead of shutting down :|

    Mine is forced to reactivate every 4 days. So specifically, why they choose this duration?

    Works for me now. Just a question popped in my mind is perhaps this happens when switching frequently between two computers?
    Was doing that before, but not now. And I'm "only" getting the weekly reactivation nag. Thinking "nagware" when I think Unity is way too sad though, I'm just going to pretend it's not happening.

    It's so annoying. Many small indie devs don't purchase the professional license but they still purchase the assets on the asset store. This is not a smart monetization strategy, people will leave Unity for other engines like Godot soon.

    Returning the license and getting a new license just adds a week or a day. Is there already a solution to this yet?

    One thing that is quite annoying is that when the Personal license expires, some of the functionalities in the Editor get disabled without specifying a reason. So when Editor is malfunctioning, we sometimes would waste 10 minutes or so to investigate the issues, then only to find that by renewing the expired Personal license fixes it.

    Does anyone found a solution to this? My license renewal usually only extends an extra 1-2 weeks which is annoying.

    My license seems to expire every day. I notice that Unity Hub no longer shows the activation period/expire date.... cynical me thinks to reduce complaints?

    Also, though I keep having to choose "activate new license" daily, it still shows my activation date from the 14th (11 days ago)

    Same here. Started a week ago, now expires all the time and sometimes I can't even start Unity.
    Trying to get work done with your Engine guys. come on :)

    This is getting really annoying.
    Anyone knows a workaround?
    This thread is over a year old. Clearly Unity isn't going to fix it.

    I switched to the chinese Unity hub, which seems to be several versions ahead.
    The issue was gone for a few weeks.
    It's back now though :)

    Bump: this still happens, the error reappeared on the chinese Unity Hub as well.
    Is there any way to fix this?
    Right now, opening the Unity hub always nags about the license expiring soon.
    And every couple of days we have to manually reactivate it.

    Is this the reason why I have to constantly login after a time? Also, why is there a dumb cookie banner on the login window? It should not belong in a small window, to be honest.

    Got some feedback from QA.
    Personal licenses expire every few days in 'restricted regions'.

    I am in Taiwan.

    Is there anyone at Unity reading this who could give me a proper license?
    Trying to get work done, with your Engine, for your community.

    License worked perfectly fine for the first 4 years in Germany.
    License expires every 3 days since being in Taiwan.

    Unity confirmed it to be intentional for certain regions.
    Where are you at?
    For me it started in Taiwan.

    i also remember being able to do UNITY offline as well, i think they did this so you cannot do your games offline any longer, smh

    Trying to get work done with your product.
    Having to reactivate every couple of days makes it very difficult to still appreciate Unity.
