i do need to install and set up both the cache server and the asset server. If not which one is better one? Is it possible to set up the asset/cache server on one computer and on other computers have the unity pro installed which will connect to the computer with the server over the Internet?

Cache server optimises asset import. So, for example, if you had a team of 10, rather than each of the 10 editors importing assets and converting them in the Unity format, the cache server will do this, and then the 10 editors can just fetch the converted data from it. Just install Cache Server onto a machine with the most amount of memory you have ever seen.

AssetServer is a version control system. It's very old... and you would probably be better off using Perforce or PlasticSCM.

Yes, the intention is that CacheServer and AssetServer are installed on a dedicated machine.

I have a question related to cache server and version control. In our project, we have a shader that has a lot of variants and it takes a lot of time to rebuild it. We lose a lot of time when we switching between branches that have some differences in this shader. Would asset cache server resolve this issue?

is there any benefits to install the cache-server locally over the built-in caching system ?

I mean if you're the only dev working on the project, will I see perf increase on assets import and platform switching ?

    thx
