So volume tile rendering sounds like a great option for optimisation and possible performance improvements with occlusion, physics and possibly shadow casting or the new voxel based global illumination techniques.

And just wondering but would this new 3D Voxel technology in DirectX tie into Microsoft's purchase of Minecraft?? ;)

To quote their site directly, the fire demo shows off a "state-of-the-art grid-based fluid simulator with an efficient volume rendering engine". VXGI targets lighting, not fluid simulation.

    https://developer.nvidia.com/flameworks

Not to mention the GeForce site lists supported cards for VXGI and only 9xx series cards are listed. Flameworks, as the site states, runs on 780 at 30fps.

I positively covet that fire. Might have to include that as an option for players with higher end cards.
