    Hello,
    I was going to buy a pack inside the asset store. The price was 100 $. The system asked me to login and so I did it.
    Surprise:mad: ! The price was changed in 95 €. At the actual exchange values, 100 $ are about 71 € not 95 € !
    Could someone explain me how is it possible?
    Thanks

    Yep europeans get ripped off hard. Nothing new here.
    Since we are richer and earn more than americans, they need to charge us more to balance it.

    Ignore what 2dfxman tells you, cause it has nothing to do with it.

    The reason the price is that high is cause UT sells from EU and you live in EU too if you have to pay in EUR instead of USD and as consequence you have to pay VAT when buying it. Blame the EU law on it if you need someone to blame for it.

    Its not daily currency exchange rate based either I think, just in case the price was wondering you.

    there is no eur prices or "living in europe premium", as I'm living in europe too but in the place that is not as poor and broke as the EU with its free fall currency and didn't see any such thing :)

    TODAY ---------> 100 US$ = 71 €
    VAT 20% ---------> 71 € * 1,2 = 85,2 €

    So why 95 €?

    Thanks anyway

    I want to revive this thread because the issue is still there and I couldn't find an explanation of it. I would really like to use the asset store, but this price issue is a total dealbraker. Can anybody throw some light on this? Otherwise I would have to find personal contact information about the publishers that I want to purchase stuff from, and negotiate a direct sale :(

    This "issue" has been explained a lot of times: if the (re)seller and the customer are based in EU and the customer doesn't have an European VAT Number, the customer have to pay VAT because of European Tax Laws. If you decide to negotiate a direct sale with the author of the package and he lives in Europe, you will still have to pay VAT because he must comply the same European Laws than Unity Team...

    However, if you negotiate a direct sale with the author of the package you may get a better deal because he might offer you a discount over the Asset Store price... but you will still have to pay VAT over the discounted price! :D

    Thanks for throwing some light at this issue! What about legal entities that are registered for VAT and doesn't have to pay it? Is there an option for these (majority among companies) of cases?

    The requirements / obligations for getting an European VAT Number can be different in different European countries... I only had to register as a Freelancer (and wait for a month) to get my VAT Number, but the requirements can be different in your country.

    If you already have a VAT Number, I think there was a field in the Asset Store to write it, so the VAT doesn't apply to you.

    So to keep it short, most of the stuff on asset store that is labeled in dollar price is payed almost the same in euros, since i guess not everyone has that VAT number?

    Yes, if you don't have a VAT number, the prices are almost "the same" in euros (for european citizens) than in dollars (for non-european citizens). However, it's not the fault of Unity Team, but European Laws...

    Huh that is quite stupid law if you ask me. Would be fun if China or some other country with low currency figures would have that law, you would purchase assets for minimum price, while seller would still gain full ammount of purchase. Double win:D

    that law exists in every country basically. Wouldn't know one that hasn't VAT and protective import taxes.

    VAT is a required thing otherwise the direct taxes would be even higher (as in 15% higher). VAT change that by making it a 'per use tax' basically so you aren't flat taxed but taxed if you buy something. Also most countries including the ones in the EU space have different VAT tiers, one for base goods need to life which is much lower and one on luxury goods as software, electronics etc. If I recall right the lower vat is somewhere in the 4% range, but someone from EU space might know better how high the VAT on books and food is.

    Any chance you'll be able to add GBP to your accepted currencies, as my bank charged me for the conversion to EUR when I made my last purchase here in the UK?

    I want to buy World Composer, but I saw it was on sale for $85.50, but when I came to buy it, it was at 85.50 euro? Now according to xe.com, $85.50 = £55.11 and 85.50 euros = £66.99, VAT does not effect the amounts because it is added afterwards. So Unity Store people, stop ripping us off! My answer? I will be requesting to buy the package directly and cutting the unity store out altogether.

    You need to add £ UK Pounds as I'm getting charged for every transaction, I wont be buying anything else until you accept £.
