Diablo 3 type MMORPG

Is it possible to make a Diablo 3 type MMORPG in Unity3d, What I'm basically asking is it possible to make the camera follow your character just like in Diablo but in a 2d/3d type look... or whatever

Yes, you can. You can check out all the awesome tutorials there are about scripting in Unity, as well as all the example projects in the Documentation and Resources sections Those should answer most of your "Can Unity do X?" questions.

 

So how many toothpicks do you plan on making the Burj Dubai out of?

I'm probably the first to say this but NO YOU CANT DO THAT, people say yes you can but really no you cant if you need to ask this question then you dont have a skill level any were near making a MMO.

 

It is possible. But because it's possible doesn't mean that it's easy. Certainly not something to attempt when you're new. The trick to doing game projects on your own or as a small team is to not be over ambitious with your projects and to assess realistically what you have the skill, time and resources to pull off. To get something EXACTLY like Diablo III, you're looking at a large team.

Also, there's a lot of MMORPGs projects out there that fail. I don't think there's anything wrong with attempting them, but you have to be realistic about it.

 

The OP didn't ask if he/she can do it -- it was merelly a question about the possibilities of the Engine. So yes, you are the first one to answer a question that was not actually even asked

 

Unity can handle the graphics, however, technically, you will not be using Unity for MOST of the process. Most of the game play coding will need to be done server side, and ALL of the networking will be handled outside Unity. Unity networking just isn't capable of handling a Massive Multiplayer Online game. Now, are you speaking of an ACTUAL MMO or are we using jargon that the younger folk have blurred the definition into meaning something that it doesn't? There is a MASSIVE (sorry about the pun) difference between an MO and an MMO.

4. construct a post looking for a team, ensuring that you provide as minimal information as you possibly can.

• Play a game that has taken 7 years in the making.
• Get addicted to said game.
• Lose grasp of reality with your addiction.
• Decide you can do better on your own in a few weeks.
• Amp it up by jumping yours from mundane multiplayer to rightfull MMO state.
• Start thread asking if an available engine can make such game.
• Make sure to specify cammera point of view.
• Sit and wait for the game to expontaneously come to existance!
• Suggested: hold breath in the meantime.
