Development Build fails in WebGL development

    I can build succesfully both development and normal in Unity 2017.2.1p2 but when upgraded to Unity 2017.4.10f1 it fails when the Development Build is choosen i have these errors: (Without development Build build is successfull.) Thanks for any help.

    thank you very much! this helped a lot, i was blind to not read error message propely :(. turns out someone removed a jslib file without removing

    I'm getting this issue. Builds on desktop fine, runs in editor WebGL fine, build to WebGL ok (but not working correctly like the desktop build), but fails on a WebGL development build. I wanted to try debugging it, but can't.

    This is an old Unity 5 project that I've just upgraded to Unity 2019.3 and was interested to see how WebGL had come along.

    Unfortunately we have had a bug that the build output gets all mangled. This has been recently fixed. Here the actual error is

    error: unresolved symbol: getPosition

    Do you have a plugin in your project that should define this function? Searching through Unity code, there is no such function that would be expected to exist? Does the issue occur with an empty project? Does the issue occur in 2020.2?

    Does your project use some kind of networking plugin? Sendfile is a BSD Sockets networking function that is not available when building to the web.

    thanks Jukka_J - for network communication i use playfab and unitywebrequests - i see there was a bug with webgl and playfab but that has been resolved...i do attempt a unitywebrequest.get...i searched the entire project for sendfile but nothing came up so its most likely called within a library from a method...just not sure which one at this point - will take a guess at unitywebrequest and start there. thanks again for your help!

    removed some httplistener code and using system.net to see if that helps...not sure if i have to remove the entire library for it to compile though but it looks like playfab calls the library in one of its scripts so hesitant to remove it completely.

    In the error message, there are unresolved symbols, like ES_AddEventHandler, ES_Close, ES_Create. Are you using some plugin that is not getting linked in?

    Thanks, that actually was my problem. I had the very same error message with the same unresolved symbols like krzystof_strzelecki. In my case, adding link.xml, link_android_subset.xml and a asmdef files to my Best HTTP Pro Fork Plugin folder solved the problem.

    Having this problem too.
    WebGL development is pretty much impossible like this.

    Which is annoying because my release builds build fine and there is only one issue that I need to solve using development builds.

    The error message here is a bit garbled, but the root issue here is:

    error: unresolved symbol: GoogleSignIn_Configure

    Searching the web, it looks like this function is part of Google Sign-In Unity Plugin? https://github.com/googlesamples/google-signin-unity

    Their README says "Google Sign-In API plugin for Unity game engine. Works with Android and iOS." I wonder if they have not added WebGL support to their plugin yet?

    This error is quite peculiar, these lines are saying that the functions

    std::__2::basic_string<char, std::__2::char_traits<char>, std::__2::allocator<char> >::reserve(unsigned int)
    operator new[](unsigned int)
    operator new(unsigned int)

    are missing, though these should be coming from the standard C++ library, they are not Unity provided functions.

    Are you by any chance compiling any plugins in your code that are precompiled for WebGL? The fact that all of those have the parameter "unsigned int" in them suggests that maybe the version they were precompiled for is out of date. Try removing external plugins from the project if so to see if one of those would uncover the issue.

    Btw please do not post to an existing thread about an issue when the error message is different from the original author. That is not helpful towards the original author of the post, since they will get notifications about unrelated chatter, and it can "hijack" the thread.

    Also please do not post to multiple threads about the same issue, since that splits the communication about the problem across multiple threads, making it hard to follow, and then messages can get lost.

    If in doubt, please open a new thread. You can certainly post to an existing thread writing a link: "hey, it looks like I am having a similar issue, but not quite the same, posted about that in <here>." That keeps the original thread's focus clear, while still linking communication across multiple people together.
