Dealing with harsh comments about your work as an indie game developer

As indie game developers we're very very attached to our work, we love our games, our content, and we treat our work as our own baby, however not everyone feels the same way and regardless of how amazing your game may be or content, you will get a nasty or harsh comment from someone who just doesn't like your work.

Don't think about those comments is my solution, learn to filter constructive feedback from S*** posting, will let you sleep at night much better.

I just let it all bounce off my ego like bullets off Superman.

 

When a person speaks, they are either relaying useful information because they genuinely want to help, or they are doing some kind of work with their ego. Sometimes, they might be doing a mix of both.

Find the useful information, disregard the rest. Ignore tone and style. You're searching for gold. You're gonna get wet and dirty and uncomfortable.

Ignore the haters some have tried to make a game and failed, some are trolls, and others are people who love negativity. Can't let the negativity get to you.

The story there of your background is fantastic dude. Good on you for pushing yourself forward.

The sentiment in this video is great, but I think that it could have been a much more effective video if you actually used actual examples from your personal experiences.

If its negative but constructive feedback I always thank the poster. I find the most valuable members of your community are the ones willing to point out the flaws in your game.

Exactly. Take criticism constructively and discard the insults, they're simply compensating for something else by attacking you personally, either problems at home or with them themselves.

Much like some people in this forum, they fail to achieve their dreams so spend their days attacking others for having minimal knowledge. Gotta start somewhere.
