    Hi everybody

These are some early pics of our new game, The Good Life - a Tropic Venture
(old title: Days of Sail 2: Venture).

It borrows simulation elements from Days of Sail: Wind over Waters (a 2006 game of ours) but there will be a huge advancement on the gameplay visuals this time around. It won’t just be a sailing simulator - it will also be a tycoon type of game.

The game will involve time management, selling/buying goods and, of course, sailing. The environment will be (evidently) tropical and we have graphically covered 25 square kilometres of original tropical land. There will be luxurious scenery (hotels beach resorts) blended with caves, sunken ships, etc...

Right now, we are two guys working on this project, one involved in programming (and story) and the other doing the 2D/3D work. We are coming close to finishing our first prototype.

    Teaser Trailer is up! link

    but

    work on the anti-aliasing.

if you don't everyone will imagine you are a very weak game creator.

Thanks a lot for all your comments. We plan to release more stuff (video + demo) really soon (when we get back from vacations).

The water is the famous ocean shader with several tweaks. However, we still can't get a boat wake right :?

sounds like a nice, peaceful concept, i like those types of games

i think there is no need for war in every single game to be a good game

This game involves time management and selling/buying goods as well as sailing. This means that the user, while in CAREER MODE, will start with a low budget and a basic sailboat but, eventually, he will be able to upgrade to larger, faster and nicer sailboats.

You can see below in-game shots from two of the available sailboats that will exist in the game:

    More to come... :)

Please include a Diesel Duck. One day I hope to build one of these after I strike it rich with one of my brilliant game ideas haha

Very cool. I enjoy seeing these titles that are trying to reach out to new groups of gamers.

The game looks good. Some suggestions:
    - add water caustics using shaders or additive textures
    - add more bounce light to the environment
    - add more birds, fish, and ambient animations

hey, it's been a while, but you've given me a chance to resurrect this thread.

    A small update:

The game is more likely to be called "The Good Life" - this title does more justice to this type of game, as it is far from a sail simulator anymore. It combines boat simulation, time management and tycoon-style of selling/buying goods. We've added several new boats, including powerboats and yachts, plus some "surprise" boats - someone mentioned a Diesel Duck? ;) - and the idea is to explore a huge world in sandbox mode, earn enough money and buy as many boats and properties as you can. There are also a handfull of missions as bonus games which give a more arcade tone.

We are nearing the beta version. We are in talks with publishers but are still open to interesting new publishing deals. You can visit our website for the latest updates in screenshots/video/etc, although I admit we have also left it a bit behind.

We use the MeshMorpher script on the wiki to control the sails.

The Good Life, a Tropic Venture (working title) is like playing a monopoly game set in a fictitious tropical environment while moving around with an impressive array of luxurious vessels, managing tourist campaigns and completing missions on your way to become the area’s top tycoon!
