Does the Daydream have a fixed field of view, or can it be changed (now or in future versions)? The log says 'Cannot set field of view on this camera while VR is enabled'.

    From the documentation....

Some VR SDKs have fixed field of view values that are used for VR cameras. When VR is enabled with those SDKs, this property will always return the value from the SDK. You will see a warning logged if you attempt to set the property and the value will be ignored.

    Thanks

What the error says is correct.

Whether it will be possible in some future version is anyone's guess. My guess is it won't, as changing the field of view of a VR headset can create extreme discomfort because the virtual field of view then doesn't match the field of view it actually takes up in your vision, thus creating a mis-match.

Daydream does not allow you to change the FOV. The FOV is locked by the device and is a read only property that we read once and use the rest of the time you are in Daydream. Changing FOV on the user introduces a potentially large level of discomfort and, AFAIK pretty much all the manufacturers lock this down.

Not being able to change the FOV can introduce potentially large level of discomfort. My 360-VR viewer can now only show grossly blown-up closeups that gives people a headache, epileptic seizures and sickness. My doctor strongly advice you to allow us to adjust the FOV again. Since medical opinions is now deciding what we developers can and cannot do.

Seriously, having control of the FOV is essential. Do not try to force one setting fits all. Make the default FOV whatever you guys think is optimal, but do not assume that is the case in every situation. Unity is a developer tool after all, for professionals. Not a toy for people who does not understand how VR works, and has to be hand held so we do not screw up something.

Please give us the ability to modify the FOV as we could before. Or at least provide a way to modify the camera projection matrix manually, so we have a way to work around this restriction when necessary.
