Reduce the amount of light shining into your eyes when reading the Forums, Documentation, Release Notes, or other supported Unity3D sites.

I originally made multiple skins for various different Unity sites. But I've merged most of them into a single skin which applies to all unity3d.com sites. Although not all sites have been customized yet.

You can get this Dark Unity3D Sites Skin over at userstyles.org.

    Main Site:

    Documentation (both local and web):

    Forum post:

Forum Thread list (including display of unread threads):

    Blog:

To apply this style I'm using the Firefox plugin called Stylish, which is also available for Chrome.

The Unity Answers Dark Skin is still available as a separate skin, but in the future it might be added to the general Dark Unity3D sites skin.

While you're installing skins, you might also be interested in the Condensed Unity Documentation skin, which tries to make the Documentation for Unity 4.5 as compact as before.

I hope that you find the skin to be useful. Let me know what you think :)

Kind of nice. Would be cool if this was a native feature of the forums.

Yeah, I would love it if the entire site was dark by default, in stead of hacking it in like this. Perhaps as a pro-feature ;)

Thanks RC. Much prefer the darker look and didn't even know Stylish existed.

Looks like they changed the forum style. I updated the skin to make at least the navigation bar at the top readable again. But there are still some new white boxes that I need to remove. I'll see if I can do a complete check at a later date.

Forum code blocks were unreadable, so in the latest version I set the Forum style to override all color coding. Unfortunately they use inline style blocks to set the colors, so as far as I know, CSS can't tell them apart.

It would be nice if the syntax highlighting used individual classes for each type of keyword in the syntax.

Wonderful thankyou so much for this! I don't know why there isn't a dark option for the unity forums. Dark images on the white template are very hard to read! Good work RC-1290!

    Thanks tynew :).
Very few sites have alternate styles by default. I think it's easy to see it as a purely aesthetic problem, low on the priority list.
The forum software isn't very skin-friendly, with a lot of exceptions that change with every update. So officially maintaining a dark skin would take a lot of work.

Added a basic style for Dark Unity Answers. It will take a while before the Unity forums will show the image preview. In the meantime, you can see a preview on the UserStyles site itself.

(Dark Unity Answers sounds like a place you go to when conventional Unity magic has failed.)

Well, the forum still didn't process the preview image for Unity Answers, so I used the standard work-around:
Remove the problematic image, upload image to any webserver, 'Insert Image' -> 'from URL' in stead of 'From Computer' and check 'retrieve remote file and reference locally'.

A preview image of the new Dark Answers Skin:

Added Styling to Unity Answers' code/syntax highlighting.

It turns out that Unity Answers has really good support for reskinning the syntax highlighting, unlike the Unity forums. It uses a custom class for each term catergory.

There are some keywords I don't recognize yet. For now they show up as pink. If you come across bright pink words in syntax, using this style, please send me a link of the page you see them on, so I can give them an appropriate default color.

Today I learned about the existence of attribute selectors in CSS. That means that syntax highlighting on the forums is back!

Syntax Highlighting for Dark Forums Skin

Attribute selectors don't seem like the fastest type of selector, but since the Unity Forums use inline styling for code blocks, I simply don't know an alternative. I haven't noticed any significant performance problems yet, on the 6 year old laptop I'm using right now.

The new documentation is styled in a new way, so I decided to modify and release my new general Dark Unity3D sites skin. It's not a full replacement for the forum skin yet, but the documentation and the release notes skins can be replaced. It now also tries to apply the styling to the rest of the site.

    Just found this, Nice!
Is there a way to get rid of the white around the Unity forum icons?
Guessing it is the image background.
