If you want to really support them get a Pro sub.

    Get multiple seats too.

"Hmm, if everybody is cool with the light editor theme, surely they won't mind if we adjust the forum theme as well ... I mean, seeing as how they spend most of their day getting work done, right?"

I currently use the educational version of Unity which includes dark mode. With that being said, I think it's rather silly that Unity forces users to upgrade to a paid subscription in order to use such a basic level of functionality. In many cases you'd be paying $40/mo for nothing more than dark mode - yes, there are benefits to the Plus plan, but if the only thing you want from it is dark mode, why would you be forced to pay for it?

To be completely honest, I wouldn't mind even paying a one-time fee to use dark mode. It just seems silly that they've locked it into a premium feature. This isn't a "oh, stop being cheap and upgrade if you want dark mode." It's a "why am I paying for a standard design pattern?"

Cos the current mindset for a lot of people is still

"Wow! Made in Unreal!" So you want to add Unreal Logo
    vs
"Oh... another random crappy unity game..." So you want to remove Unity Logo.

I'm not saying all unity games are crappy or all unreal games are great, but simply by sheer numbers, even if unity and unreal have the same % of crappy games, crappy unity games will out number crappy unreal games by many many times. But honestly, while still not up there with Unreal, the Unity brand name is a lot better these days compared with in the past.

And Unity has no obligation to fullfill your request. Use another product or pay up.

Their software - their rules. It is just business.

Demanding something is like screaming at some trying to make it come down.

Also, those kind of threads have zero effect on unity technologies. It isn't the first one, and the world hasn't ended.

How about this kind of strategy...

Unpaid version displays logo. To remove it, you have to subscribe.

But. IF you pay extra, then you'll be granted permission to use dark theme unity logo in your game splash screen!

No I will not use another product and I will continue to demand free dark theme even when I switch to paid version

You don't like this request and this tread just ignore and switch to another forum

Yep. The ultimate fate that befalls most "we demand a dark theme" threads. Or something.

There were too many of those threads to be honest. When they initially appeared, one could feel sympathetic to it, but now the whole thing just looks ridiculous.

Sure, the only difference is that I personally find it ridiculous from Unity's side as well.

And the most ridiculous thing to me is the "If you don't like it switch to another platform" answers.
I made such request because I love Unity and I want it to get better. not because I am a cheap bastard who just wants more stuff for free. (that's what people accused me here)

    But that's a reasonable advice.
You're not the first person requesting this feature. Threads like yours has been popping up for what... .5 years? Probably longer than that.

Unity doesn't seem to care. Therefore, if you want dark theme the best idea is to either pay up or switch away, that is, if you actually want to get things done. Because it is highly likely that the feature isn't coming any time soon.

Also, unity is just a tool. I would advise not to get too attached to tools, as they come and go. Some are better, some are worse, but ultimately at some point in time you'll likely switch to something else anyway.

It's not ridiculous though. Don't expect Unity to change, they won't, even if it's super clear they're in the wrong.

Plus, on the list of things wrong with Unity, this is kinda low.

In general yes, no one should always relay on one thing but in my case this is not an option for me. As I've been using pro for more than 2 years, have to use the free version now for 2-3 months period, and will get back to paid version after this period.

Wow, the amount of passive aggression at the OP in the thread is incredible. Like they said, if you don't like the topic go somewhere else.

It seems likely to me that the only way to change this is for people working for Unity to put pressure on those who make the decisions, or at least for there to be a general belief that it's not a good idea. We already know some staff want it to change, and I bet that had something to do with all the threads over the years.

Not to assume anyone's beliefs in particular, but at least one staff member has already seen the thread and decided not to lock it.

That would be unity's CEO or upper level management. For them to start caring, I'd suppose the one requesting the feature should be an enterprise level customer, and then there's a question why would an enterprise level care about dark skin since they already should be getting it.

We're being told to keep it nice and have a civil discussion but therein lies the core problem with this thread. You can't have a discussion when there isn't anything to discuss. This thread serves no purpose beyond the OP making a statement. Once they've done that the thread is effectively done.

That's quite possible (likely even). But still, maybe there are a few people in Unity with clout who are interested in making such seemingly minor things happen.

One way or the other, it's clear that it's an important issue for Unity. It's first in the list of benefits for Pro, and presumably makes them some money because people want to enjoy using the engine. Hopefully they can find something more substantial to sell.

The problem is that there seem to be certain people who cannot walk away from a thread that they cannot add anything useful to. The OP is obviously new, I say let them have their say.

Edit: well, new to the forum, perhaps? :)

I tried asking last page, and we still have sour grapes in this thread.

I'll state this again - I want this topic to be discussed. It's important we know what our user base is talking about and it's feedback we take seriously. What we can't have is threads being derailed into rudeness. We can't go into a situation where we are locking these type of threads the moment they appear because of the history of old threads going into chaos rather quickly.

I am locking this thread. If you want to contribute to this discussion, I would suggest you abide by the rules.
