Question cyber punk just added realtime path tracing why does unity not have this already as its PT is slow

    cyber punk just added realtime path tracing why does unity not have this already as it PT is slow and it only has ray tracing normal which still is very slow and buggy when on rtx 3090

    Technically you can already run games with PT in Unity, but they lack a proper realtime denoiser and lack proper support for DLSS in their PT. But you can enable PT and set SPP to 1, and max depth to 2 or 3 and it would be somewhat realtime. It also lacks VFX graph support.

    Wish someone at Unity would implement either SVGF and/or ASVGF as they are industly standard denoisers for PT.
    They could also look at this guys custom denoiser, which is supposedly faster and better than SVGF and ASVGF.

    If they'd take it seriously, with VFXgraph suport, DLSS and a realtime denoiser their PT could be used to ship games already.

    If you want to take a look at a custom PT that is designed for realtime rendering then I'd recommend looking at TrueTrace by the same guy that made that custom denoiser.

    It even has caustics.

    It's a bit wonky to work with but it's an alternative.
