    Hey everyone!

I am opening this thread to kick off the discussion around the cutscenes. We think that now it’s time to start the first step by making the storyboards for the different cutscenes we have in the game. According to the game design diagram previously shared, we have a total of 5 cutscenes.

Let’s give a quick overview of what we expect to see in these cutscenes:
    1. Opening cutscene
This is the first cutscene that will play as soon as we start the game from the main menu. We will see the pig chef approaching the coast. He is on the boat with the phoenix chick and he is talking to her.
Card on Codecks for the storyboard.

    2. Rock candy creation cutscene
The second cutscene is a dialogue between the pig chef and bard hare about the festival and where we are hinted to go toward the Hill (previously called Glade).
During the cutscene we see the phoenix chick turning the sweet cream into rock candy.
Card on Codecks for the storyboard.

    3. Critter attack cutscene
This cutscene will play after the dialogue with the townsfolk in the Farms location when he asks you for help to kill the critters. In the cutscene we will see a few slime critters attacking farm fields by swallowing vegetables.
Card on Codecks for the storyboard.

    4. Town intro cutscene
This cutscene plays as soon as the Town Market scene is loaded. The pig chef talks to a townsfolk who will tell us about the festival. The camera will be giving an overview of the different key locations of the town while the townsfolk describes them.
Card on Codecks for the storyboard.

    5. Final win cutscene
In the final cutscene, we see the pig chef presenting his dish to the local chef. Then, the local chef starts tasting the dish.
5.a Winning ending: Pig chef presents a sweet dish and we see local chef impressed.
5.b Losing ending: Pig chef presents a salty dish and we see local chef disappointed.
Card on Codecks for the storyboard.
We expect the cutscenes to be relatively short, feel free to think of the custom animations that are needed. However if a cutscene has way too many custom animations then we might cut it.
The short descriptions shared above based on the diagram are here just to define briefly what happens during the cutscenes but of course feel free to be creative on the storyboards!

There was a mixup of threads here on the forums, and we were linking a deleted thread from the cards on Codecks... but this is the one! Let us know if anyone is up for the task, otherwise we'll make some storyboard ourselves in the coming weeks! :)

Taking this as an opportunity to get some Bard Hare narration going, starting with the final cut scene. Apologies for the terrible finger art and "watermark" of the free software I used.

Intro scene idea (1.1) taken from the original Dialogue and Narrative thread, along with the overall idea of Bard Hare as a narrator throughout (could still be involved in all the cutscenes like this, which I might try out if it's not too overdone).

In the "Winning Dish" storyboard, the desserter character could show up for the celebration in 1.9 (can't believe I forgot to mention her before...).

In the "Losing Dish" storyboard, the desserter character won't show up.

Love it! In a way though, it would be good to get the actual camera angles. In this storyboard, everyone seems to be framed in full figure from the distance, but we can do a lot with cameras. Plus, we can frame the scenery too (we have a lot of it :D) and it's cheap narration :D

Haven't pulled the latest in a while to see what the town looks like, so figured to just give the characters present with a brief synopsis of what's going on (actions) and how the dialog is being delivered. Thanks for the tips/suggestions, will try to fit in some scenery and explain the camera angles a bit more before moving on to another storyboard. Not an artist so was hoping to leave the actual camera angle depictions to the experts. :)

No problem, it's still very valuable to see how other people imagine these moments in the story! We can come up with the actual cinematography as a second stage.

Can we use unity camera to make the storyboard? Something like creating a machinima but rendering out still panels?

You could use Timeline and Cinemachine shots, and Cinemachine Storyboard if you want to incorporate 2D images. To render you can either take screenshots yourself (using whatever your OS provides) or the Recorder package, which is already installed in the project.
