Before I say anything I'll say this:

I am using Unity Personal Edition, and I didn't have a problem with there being a Unity splash screen at the start of my game.

But starting from Unity 5.2, the splash screen for Android changed, and this is how it looks on a phone (attached to this thread).

Who the hell thought it would be a great idea to use some cheap glow effect on the background of the splash screen, and make it not full-screen sized? The splash screen is placed on the middle, and this makes it look like there is a stupid black border.

You want to advertise Unity by forcing splash screens for Personal Edition users? Fair enough. You guys really deserve it. I really appreciate being able to use this awesome engine for free.

But did you guys really need to make it look this cheap? Is it some money-hungry plan to get more developers to purchase the Pro edition just to stop looking at this hopeless splash screen?

I heard that you guys are changing the splash screen for version 5.4 (would be great if any beta-testers could confirm), but this issue has been apparent for quite a while. How hard is it to fix this? I would certainly not think 3~4 months..

For once... I think this is a reasonable complaint about the splash screen.

I absolutely agree it's fair for it to be there. I also agree that it looks somewhat amateur that it doesn't handle the size of the image correctly with regard to the edges of that glow. It's clearly designed as a full-screen image, but that's not actually how it's used, so glow has a hard edge where it clearly shouldn't and as a result it looks tacky.

Yeah, this is a pretty reasonable complaint. The fact that it looks like this is kinda baffling.

The plash screen, which should be a fullscreen image, doesn't occupy the entire screen and has a large black border on android devices.

Look at the screenshot attached to the OP. That's taken from a device verbatim, including the black border around the outside of the splash image. I've hilighted the edges in my attachment.

On (most) Androids the splash image is a fixed size image with a black or white background. So the idea is that the splash image fades to complete back or white at the edges. If you don't you get the above effect where it looks like the image is just the wrong size.

I don't know if it can occupy the whole screen, given that Android devices can come with virtually any aspect ratio. It should be designed to account for that, however, which is not the case.

Edit: Changed the hilight colour in the image so it's easier to see. Bright yellow made it harder to see.

    You figured them out -
Make sure the game that follows the splash screen is awesome and no one will care what the splash screen looks like.

You should thank Unity, it is written "Powered by Unity" , players won't know if it is Pro or Personnal.
While "Unity Personnal edition" makes the distinction , like you are using a cheap version of Unity.

This is like the dumbest complaint I've seen about Unity.. of all the thousands of things to complain about with Unity..

Its the android splash screen? It actually looks pretty professional to me, whytf would you want to bigger, its just the right size and all that black surrounding it makes it look better. If that logo was even 2x the size it would look stupid.

I'm with zengarden, I'd rather that splash screen over the made with unity personal edition.

You should start making a small mobile arcade 2D or 3D game.

Regardless of whether you like it or not, there's a new splashscreen in 5.4.

I probably wouldn't use unity for it. I might just be old and racist, but I firmly believe that mobile's place in the market is companion apps. I could do a native app that has a web service or communicates with unity over LAN / bluetooth. I've always wanted to try bluetooth connectivity...

10 30 1994 is most likely DOB... not some random ass numbers.

His point is completely valid as well, so IDK WTF you are talking about. The Android splash has been naff for a few versions now and should have been fixed (in 5.4 apparently it is...). Surely it wasnt so hard to replace a handful of images.

    What means DOB ?
Anyway, the splash screen doesn't represent the game and it is just displayed a second, i don't have a problem with it.

    dob = date of birth.

Ive never cared much about the splash screen, but I think it should be high quality, and I dont know why that hasnt been a priority for Unity considering they've had a bad rap for being a budget engine for ages. Having a crappy quality splash wont help that perception (yeah yeah I know it doesnt mean squat in the grand scheme of game quality/success)
