    I created a brand new project. I created a 3D cube and for some reason it always appears grey instead of white. Can someone tell me why that is? In all the tutorials I see online, the cubes are white. I haven't changed any settings in the project.

    The color of your cube is affected by a few things:
    • The color of the light in the scene. The default light Unity puts in a new scene is slightly yellowish
    • The material being used by the Cube's MeshRenderer component. The default material has several texture components, the most important one of which is the albedo texture, which is like the main color texture of the material
    • A million other things: intensity of the light, settings on your material, other lights in the scene, location of your object relative to lights, location of your camera relative to the objects and reflections from the lights, ambient lighting settings, etc...
    If this sounds like a lot, that's because it is! Lighting simulation can be pretty complicated.

    If you want your cube to just be white regardless of the lighting etc. in the scene you can do this:

    Assets -> Create -> Material

    On your new material set the shader to Unlit/Color and set the color to white:

    Then you can drag the material asset onto your cube and voila, it will be white, no matter what. But you might find this to be pretty bland! So what you can do is create a new material that uses the Standard shader, and set the albedo color to white, and it will be white, but a little more interesting than just unlit white.
