    Hey guys,

We @ Whodat have been working on a face tracking solution for a while now. Features include tracking face in low light conditions, pose estimation of face up to 30 degrees. Accurate eye position.

We have working versions for the Mac and iOS(iPhone 4+, iPad 2+). When launched Mac version will run at 50+ fps and iOS running at 25+ fps.

We are now at the optimization point and are working hard to bring in better performance.

Once this is done we will also launch for Windows, Android and eventually web.

We wanted to gauge the interest from the unity community to release this solution as a Unity plugin. For the price model we were looking at a per app licensing fee. I know this is a bit unconventional but as a startup we wanted to know what would be a comfortable price point for you guys if you were to license something like this for building immersive face tracking games/apps.

Please have a look at our current Mac demo here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Otvn1aCtDus

We are very excited to learn about your feedback. Thanks for your time :)

    Looks pretty awesome!
But the per-app licensing fee looks kinda daunting for indie developers.

We are looking at a moderate per app license fee . This sdk has been built keeping the indie community in mind so don't worry we won't be greedy :)

It does sound daunting for an indie.I don't know how you define moderate. I guess in terms of unity app store I view cheap up to $10, moderate up $25, expensive $25-50. Past that it better give be something amazing to consider it. They are all perpetual licences, so I guess divide by 4 if you are using on average 4 projects.

Looks good though :) You should bring to iOS if you bring to android. Android/iOS cross platform is important.

Our main aim with this SDK is to target indie developers, the other face tracking solutions out there are dauntingly expensive (5 - 6k$/app) and we felt it was impossible for small and medium sized devs to be able to afford it, thats where we want to come in

We haven't worked out our final price points yet, since we are still in an optimization phase we want to decide on our prices based on the release quality

We will launch with Mac, iOS and Windows versions and Android and web will follow soon, you can expect something in Q1 next year :)

Yes sure, we've seen and tried this solution, this works fine but like you pointed out, it is restricted to be used with a kinect.

Our plan from the beginning was to create a cross platform, cost effective solution to track faces using a standard 2d webcam :)

THis sounds great. You should search on the answers site for all the many, many people asking about face detection, and make notices about it there.

Please email me about your project. Waiting to hear from you.

Forget about a "per app" pricing program. Just charge $200 for the kit, or whatever.

"the other face tracking solutions out there are dauntingly expensive" which ones are you referring to?

    Hello Fattie,

This project is still under development and we will be launching the public beta only sometime in Q1 next year,

We will be releasing periodic demos to show the progress in a couple of weeks time

Regarding the price, we are still yet to decide on it as it will all depend on the final quality/features we offer

Regarding the competition, ive sent you a private message

Please get in touch with you need any more info, we can be contacted directly from here - http://www.whodat.in/contact/

This plugin looks very promising, and I eagerly await the beta/release.

I agree that as a developer, a single license fee would be preferable to per-project licensing.

Same here, we are interrested in using this technology for a branded game (advergame). We would like to use it to show a 3D-model avatar in realtime on a tablet.

Updates? Looks great, I need face detection for an installation... I have not found anything that can handle robust lighting or skin tones. Would love to hear how things are going with your plugin.
