    Hi Guys

I finished drawing importing my hand drawed Platforms from Paper into Photoshop. I saved each and every Platform as both a .psd and .png data. What I realized is that each .png file is extremely big and even the Resolution is quite huge for just 1 Platform. And that needs to go into Unity for a 2D Platformer Mobile Game.

As an example I have 1 Platform.png file that has a resolution of 4239 x 2736 and a size of 17.4MB. Now I need to cut the Resolution down but have to decrease the file size as well. It ain't easy as every platform has its own file size but also its own resolution.

My Friends told me to create such platforms instead on paper in a Program. Now by looking at some Plugins those are high quality but low file size, low draw calls which is essential for mobile games. But some games such as Doodle Jump seem as well to have been drawn on normal paper and then imported to the Computer to create the game, or am I wrong?

Now without wasting to much time, what is the best way to proceed? Should I adjust the png file of each of those 20-25 Platforms in its file size and image size, or can I do something in a program quicker with low drawcalls ?

Is there a Program to where I could have my original platform in the background and redraw it but with graphics such as the tile builder plugin have?
Since it has to run smooth on smartphones, I need to know if I should proceed or look for a program that could ease my job a bit. Even if I would need to redraw it.

Could anyone give me some advice, please?

    Thanks a lot ! :)

    Regards
    NC :D

so you have a complete level as png? in that case, break it down to little pieces (and try to reuse the same piece as often as you can. E.g. ladders, barrels etc)
Then export to pieces as e.g. png (with e.g. alpha background, and cut to it's size), and use that inside Unity (recreating the level on you had on paper).
If you are doing it correctly (small files, and reuse often) you will notice a huge size difference.

No really. I have several Platforms for the character to jump saved as individual png's. Each of those single platforms contain different file size and resolution size.

I want them to be very "light" for mobile gaming. Now most games I see such as Hay Day, the Free 2D Platformer from Unity, Bad Piggies have those "simple" yet effective graphics with low drawcalls, file size, etc... I want to achieve the same basically but with my own hand drawed pictures. They won't have the clarity such as computer made graphics, but I wanna give it a go..but have no experience in doing so.

Doesn't actually Adobe has such a Program to create such graphics?

Ah i see.. well you have scanned pictures, and saved it as such. (pictures are pixels by nature results in bigger files)
You should redraw (you can use the scanned pictures and trace them (new layer)) everything, using vectors (smaller, and works with "points" and tweens between them, instead of pixels). Also it makes it possible to change size without loosing quality.

vector programs from adobe? eeh.. freehand, fireworks afaik.

Ok so you would really recommend me to redraw my scanned pictures if I wanna use them for my 2D Game? I thought this would be happening..

Sorry but I am not too familiar with a vector based programm. Which one would you recommend without a high learning curve from those 2 you mentioned? Freehand or Fireworks? Do both do basically the same?

Where you from? It says Western Europe?

I would say Freehand, since it has most features.

I'm a neighbor of England, but not Irish, Scottish nor French ;)
