Yes, but do you have a million dollars to put into it to do it?

I think great graphics will be the least of your worries with any game engine you choose to use.

Ok then show me the simple mechanic for when you call your Titan and then climb into it. Don't forget the UI for the countdown, the voice over for the call and all the effects.
And that is just one very very small part of it.
Not to mention all the parkour settings, animations, etc for it. Environments, etc.
But got for it. Prove everyone wrong.

Uhm... yes... Unity3D can do a Titanfall clone. Unity can also produce pretty graphics like UE4 if you know what you are doing. Shaderforge is a really helpful extension for working on shaders within Unity3D.

Making a clone is on the other hand very unoriginal and boring... keep what you love, remove what you hate and add new stuff that expands the gameplay possibilities and turn it into something new. Make your own game and people will be a lot more impressed.

These days, the most important thing isn't the engine, it is the developers working with it.

Many people love Unity because they find it simple and intuitive to work with. Even Epic have recognized the engine and they are taking lessons about workflow, UI and so on from Unity when developing UE4.

As with most questions of this type:
Your skill, determination and endurance are the limit to what you can do.

If graphics are your main concern, Unity can do what you need. This here is a recent screenshot from my game BHB: BioHazard Bot. If I can do it so can you, but keep in mind I have close to 8 years experience as a 3d artist...

    BHB HD Screenshot 02 (subtitle).jpg

Can you make a game like Titanfall in Unity? Yes. But here's the main thing to keep in mind, you might actually be better off making it in Unreal 4 than Unity.
The reason is because Unreal 4 provides a lot of network multiplayer FPS stuff out of the box (based on Unreal Tournament where its name comes from), which is a lot of stuff you'd have to do yourself in Unity. Now mind you, you can do that stuff in Unity, but you'll need get a lot of it either on the Asset Store or do it yourself. Doing it yourself is actually very beneficial in the long term, but it is time consuming and not for everyone.
Also note, Hawken is an indie game made with UDK

This is a old disscusion (search AAA in the forum), possibly Unity 5 with PBS and Enlighten change the game engines graphics quality panorama but i am not sure, time will tell.

It's honestly not as difficult as everyone is making it seem if you have experience and know what you are doing. Graphics aside I could make a system for summoning and mounting titans in a week

Not saying that it can't be done. Anything can.
it is the "I want to make xyz game that made millions in a or b game engine" add this to the next sentence of "it is me and my buddies who haven't done anything but really really wanna make this game" coupled with" point me to tutorials on how to do this that and this other thing."

If you can't decide on whether to use Unity or Unreal for a large project you should create a test scene. Build an actual model from your game, give it an animation, shaders, etc - something representative. Do this in both game engines. Now compare the workflows and you can estimate how long your project will take in each engine for a given level of quality.

You're missing the point on Indie Development, it is very important that your clients (players) can build an emotion connection with you, nobody expects an Indie game to be a AAA game upon release, I mean it's possible, but think realistically about it, you can have the biggest team ever known to man on a game, but without pay, they will eventually get tired and want results. Without results, and with results I dont mean content, but purely monetary income.

I've known a guy who made it BIG making a game for Xbox 360, with great success, first day he had over 30 grand come in, however, he was still depressed and very upset, because it wasn't about the money, but about his clients (the players)
didn't truly understand the message behind his game, this game has to be something that actually has something of importance to you, I don't mean money isn't important, but unless you got millions of dollars, you can't really compete with Evil Arts or anything, the biggest reason is, the only way you'll ever truly know what engine is right for you is to just use it a few times, especially Unity 5, it's a complete game change from this 4.x series, way freaking different.
But if you and your team truly knew what they were doing, you'd know exactly what engine you want to use, there's nothing wrong with admitting you are a beginner if you are, (we all started out that way buddy). Because you sound like one, and achieving something like titan fall with complete beginners may be more of a challenge then you may realize.

First time games or heck even third time) games like this will either make or break you, moreso leaning towards the breaking side, because we all started out man I want to make the next big game like COD, or in your case Titan Fall.
When they get 6 months into it, reality strikes them, they go through a major depression, loose all social life (as I did).
Feel like everyone in the world is turning against you, because you know longer have time for friends or anybody, because you know deep down in your heart this will be a big game, now 12 months down the road you decide to show people and what do you get? Not a single person interested, not because it wasn't good, but just because, why does anyone want to play a clone of another game? (Speaking of developers in general).
That's when the breaking point starts to hit.

What I'm trying to say is, isn't not go for your dreams, but, make very sure, that you, your team, friends and family are all supportive of such a big endeavor, prepare to not have a job because if you want to finish your game before the next generation of systems comes out, you won't have time for a job, so make sure your way is paid for by friends/family/team members.

Because it's a life of dedication, you can't let nothing and nobody get in your dreams, and sadly, people say time is more than enough, that's a lie, time is very short, before you know it 6 months down the road and no practical results to say you really accomplished anything...

So just be careful with your decisions you make, because I don't want to see any other developer go through what I did.

lets be realistic here, in my opinion you won't be able to do something like that in Unity 4 because of the 32-bit architecture, but in Unity 5 it should be up to you if you can do it or not.

lol actually you saying this makes me realize how easy it would be.. thanks!! ... but thats me..
but then im thinking about mechanics, not graphics

but really, most everything in the world is easy, just time consuming
(hmm except when there's a clash of Wills, thats the hard things)

The engine doesn't determine whether the game is poor or great. The dev team does. It sounds like this huge project is a first or early project for the team. I'd give you the same advice I'd give anyone else - jump in and start making games, but also learn your craft properly (be it art, code, whatever), and start with small games and work your way up.

It would be the same process with anything. Break it down to the parts and get working! Rome wasn't built in a day nor all at once!
