Why does WRLDS need to own the code for the winner? This means any submissions can't use any 3rd party code, such as from the asset store or even from Unity's standard assets, and any self created code won't be available to reuse in your own later projects, etc. If that is not the case you should make it more clear than simply:

It is also unusual for a "Connected game" to use a networking API that isn't from a 3rd party, so they can't just hand over ownership of that code anyway. Is everyone supposed to write directly to the Socket class?

    Hi Joe!

Thanks for asking. The reason we need the code for the full competition is simply that it’s the only way we’ve managed to come up with to be able to judge the 100 downloads that the competition is all about. Also, this makes it easier for developers without their own developer account... That said however, there is nothing stopping applicants from doing submissions for part 1 of the competition only and thereby keeping ownership of the code.

Please ask if there’s anything else pure thinking about!

    Thanks
    Felix

But viewing code for judging purposes and having the developer transfer all rights over their code to your company are entirely different things. As I mentioned, that isn't even possible legally speaking for the majority of Unity projects.
