Confusion on SmoothDamp

Hi, I was reading through the SmoothDamp documentation and saw that it was under a Vector3 which in my mind is an array of three values not the up to five of SmoothDamp. Can someone please explain this? Also feel free to get as into the weeds as you want or link some resources on the matter.
