Bug Conflicting CharacterController.Move/SimpleMove Documentation

CharacterController.SimpleMove states that "it is recommended that you make only one call to Move or SimpleMove per frame." No reasoning is provided. CharacterController.Move then appears to call Move twice per frame. Am I misunderstanding what's going on or is this conflicting documentation? If the latter, which is correct?
