Completely pointless thread: Best pixel art of all time?

I really don't have any point to this at all other than being a huge fan of pixel art.

So anyway, what do you feel like are the absolute best pixel art games of all time?

My favorites are:
Breath of Fire 3

Street Fighter 3

Dracula X: Rondo of Blood (and by extension Symphony of the Night)


Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2)


What are your favorites?

 

For me the best pixel-art looking game, which happens to be my favourite arcade game of all time too, was Rygar.
The monsters, the variety of background scenery, the music, the gameplay, everything was so polished and ahead of its time...

 

I always liked the style of Minish Cap



And the really great animations in SNK games. Especially KOF and Metal Slug



Street Fighter is great too

Back in the early 1990s I took some photographs, with a 35mm film camera shooting the Atari ST monitor.

That black edge is really the monitor, not some effect.
I should have dusted off the picture first
Thats the actual photo scanned no retouching, I did a lot of bracketing.

Those single dots, are single pixels.

I personally prefer the somewhat more minimalistic/stylised pixel art.

I do love Metal Slug, but I think the tank design is a blatant rip-off of "Bonaparte" from Masamune Shirow's "Tank Police":

Not really a game, but this is one of my absolute favorite piece of pixel art.



How amazing would it be to see a game like that?

Of course it's not really economically feasible.

 

It reminds me Ori , this is not pixel, but state of the art about a 2D game for me.

 

Gonna have to redo tob one day.

 

Why not do a sequel?
