    Hello!

After weeks of looking around on forums, name generators etc, I haven't find a good name for my future game company. It's so hard to find something good and I'm kinda picky when it's about choosing names that you need to stick with.

It would be awesome if you guys could help me come up with an awesome name!

I want it to sound cool, for example names like Raiden, Bizotic, Blizzard etc.

I've come up with some names that I'm not 100% happy with:
    Arcatinu (Games)
    Panorum (Interactive)
    Insidge (Interactive)
    Drust (Games)

What do you guys think of these?

I googled all of them and only Drust came out as something that already exists. Personally I have to agree with Dallon here tha Panorum interactive has a nice ring to it.

people best remember simple cartoonish imagery and funny wordplays. where mouse is a funny word play. purple Penguin and names like that get remembered for a very long time. Abstract names less. It's psychological.
I was thinking of a funny name combining darkness/occult and cute, like shadow-banana, Rabbit of rage, doom slug, elite frog, night banana.

Yeah, Panorum has a nice sound to it.

Would I need a company name I would probably pick a random Finnish word. Something short. That worked for Nokia and Rovio.

I don't like any of the names you suggested. You want a name that is easy to remember, easy to pronounce, easy to read and not a tongue-twister. Think usability - how easy is it for someone to USE the name e.g. when typing a web address, when referring to your company, when talking about you to others etc.

I notice that many companies take a normal existing word that they like, like `superb`, and then change a few letters... so like, superX or zuper or something.

I went through this recently before settling on bitgremlin, some other names that came to mind based on .com or .ca availability:

    pixelforce
    dataquest
    bitstream

Stuff like that, didn't really work for me but perhaz it will for you.

    this + easy to spell.

Also make sure the website is available, and that googling the name doesnt return a set of results that will be impossible to trump.

Also dont wank off about 'my games studio company bs' until you are actually a legally recognised entity.

There is NOTHING worse than ppl that say they are director of 'bs not really a company name'

Don't bother with a domain or web site. Find an easy name like 'Gala Games' or 'Winesap Games', register it for $25 or $50 and don't bother with a website or such things. If you're not worried about a becoming rich from games, you don't even need to try and hide behind a company name: you can use your real name.

A web site will waste your time and money and advertising dollars if you spend any. You are publishing games not a newspaper. Your game is good and you get lucky or not.

I have to agree with this. Nothing wrong with having a web site, but there's no need to put overly much effort into it. Think about it: when is the last time you checked a developer's website before buying their game? Or when is the last time you just happened by a developer website and ended up buying a game as a result?

The answer to those two questions are pretty reliably "never".

Nemeni was going to be my name. I used two words I liked: Gemini and Nemesis. And I like the Japanese language and since it also sounded Japanese and could be easily translated into Katakana. I had planed to buy a domain but it was apparently taken so I added an 'a' to Nemenai and it was eh at first but I like plus people can pronunce it correctly and still can be translated into Katakana. Anywho, I think it has to come to you. Asking for one or picking a name you're not fond of later on could be bad but I have a few suggestions:

    Lunarsuit Interactive
    Shichi Studios
    Inagam Games
    Quadrix Studios
    Alphoid Interactive
    This Game Company
    Phaze Games
    Tomokachi Studios
    Perfect Pixel Games
    Xadyne Games
    Ko Studios
    Arca Games
    Fukin Interactive
    Baboonda Games...

This. There's nothing more pathetic than that.
When my girIfriend and I registered our business a colleague of mine asked me: "Woah. So you are the Director and she is the Art Director, eh?"
I thought and said that was the most stupid thing to say. It's easy to say you're the Director/Boss/Lead/etc when there's nobody else around...
    So, reign it in ;)

Don't feel the need to stick "games" or "interactive" on the end. Interactive in particular sounds quite dated to me, and brings back memories of cd-rom games with full-motion video. :p

You might argue that without that, people might not immediately know what you do. But I'm pretty sure they won't anyways.
Most names are vague and meaningless, but are just fun to say - and easy to remember. That's all that really matters.
