    The two Olsen brothers are at it again with the expansion of the first shooter title Combat Extreme.

    It will be here that frequent updates, tech demos, examples of our custom rolled solutions and answers around development questions the community might have around this title will happen.

    So without further adieu, lets kick this thread off with a interview/talk between the two developers and some cool examples of the basic ballistics in the new version of Combat Extreme.

    Sweet, but the M1A1 and most modern tanks don't rock that much when firing and definitely don't roll back at all.

    Harish_Babu... indeed this is now resolved in 2.0. The problem was that the first version of CE was not authoritative, so indeed there were still shooting RPCs being sent over the network even though you have observed someone being killed.

    Now though, each action is ask to be performed by the server such as shooting. So if a person dies in the process the server knows to not accept further requests or RPCs from that dead player.

    The first person gun seems a bit too far back for my liking. You should be able to see at LEAST three quarters of the gun :) But other than that, looks awesome man!

    Good point, we got about 120 weapons now, so another pass on positions across the different animations states for the FP camera is really needed. Thanks!

    Harish_Babu, that website is under development this week and will be up soon. More focused on getting the game wrapped up first, but wanted to include it in our videos for legacy purposes.

I Played that game in begening 2 days without sleep i play that game Ce... i will die for your game Olsen......Now i am waiting for CE 2..... tell us release date.... we cant wait....for the game....""Question for u Olsen""....In every city we will get that vehicle,,, like ...tank........Planes...ect,,,,???? and how munny citys are there how munny weapons ect,,, details tell us please....!! we cant wait for ur game tell us firt when game is ready....^_^

    Harish, I think a better question is will all vehicles be allowed in all game types, and the answer is no. We can't say for certain on how many maps we will have ready in time for launch, but all game types:

    • DEATH MATCH
    • TEAM DEATH MATCH
    • SEARCH AND DESTROY
    • CAPTURE THE FLAG
    • AIR BATTLE
    • BLITZ
    • DOMINATION


    Will be played on all available maps like before, but the areas of play will be smaller depending on the game type. DM obviously will not be as large map play area as say blitz or domination, so they wont get air vehicles, but possibly ground vehicles instead.

    It really depends on the game type, and the area of play on each map for each game type. Again, all maps will have the ability to have one or the other vehicles types, just under different game types. We are trying to get beta up within the next month, but don't like to be held too tightly to deadlines, as we want to focused on a polished product first and foremost rather than a date.

    Sir another Question for u.... Are u putting map in game---- Maps like GTA 5, SAINT ROW 4 SLEEPING DOGS ECT... if we flying plane we must need a map for to know where we are going to....!!

    2. You tell us that ur putting a voice chat is it TRUE if it is there how do we know which one is talking to us..
    3. U tell that ur putting 120 weapons in game can u tell some of Guns Weapons Names please please please. ...Olsen

    This time around, we are 100% supporting clans and group / friend interactions through out website and game as much as possible, so yeah we hope it will also include voice chat in our final results.

    Here are a few of my favorite new weapons we have added so far:

    In your last game CE is most popular game Now a days.....Olsen don't think that boys only like this game Now on day Beautyfull girls also comming to the game to play... Some girls are asking to put a lady charater in CE 2 game... Will u put a Lady Charater...??? If u putting that charater how do. The serves know who is boy and girls....????

    We have been back and forth on this one a number of times, and in light of trying to get the game up and out the door, plus already having built out our characters; this late request (that we have start to see being asked as well), unfortunately will not be included at launch, but will be added in a later update.

    The problem with the request at this late in the development process is that we have vastly changed up our characters. Before we had 4 characters with texture variations, where as in CE2.0 we have 20 unique characters over 4 class types for 5 different countries / fractions.

    So developing out 20 more characters for optional female setting would be a lot of development, and would hold back the release date a considerable amount.

    The Countries / proxy fractions are:
    • US
    • Russia
    • Israel
    • Hamas
    • Insurgents
    Character classes are:
    • Medical
    • Supporting
    • Specialists
    • Reconnaissance

    i ask some hackers that u cant hack this game CE 2.0 there are saying that we will hack that game Ce 2.o... i am worndering that there will hack ur game..Ce 2.0

    You can tell those hackers that we've taken every possible precaution that we can and have built CE 2.0 around a fully authoritative server/client model. The common cheat engine hacks that were prevalent in CE 1 (and many other non-authoritative games) will be rendered useless in 2.0.

    I played CE 1 on gameflare, it looks very fun. I am curious if you managed to make anything off it like adrevenue or whatever? Reason I am asking is I am making a game of a similar caliber and I was considering my business options for it. I don't really know if it is possible to make any money outside of Steam and maybe you guys have some insight since you already have an active project with people playing it?

    Hi Cheburek, thanks for the kind words.
    So, our only revenue in 1.0 was/is indeed advertisements between game rounds and at the start up of the game. This gave us a good impression amount and clicks that we were able to keep our servers up for the game, as well as make a few hundred extra a month to re-invest into our game (art, upgrades, editors and tools etc). So to be honest, yes we do make money on the first version, but its a good month that we don't almost break even to keep the game up and we still have full time jobs. :)

    With that said though, that was only advertisements approach. This time around we have collected a ton of feedback from our players that allows us to create a few more avenues of revenue this time around. Like offering a dedicated private server rent plans, building our new site off an eCommerce solution, offering a full downloadable version of the game for a cost etc etc. This should help us expedite the re-invest process and further implement our ideas for things like single player and story lines at some point with paid help.

    I would advise that you look at trying to find alternative revenue avenues on top of ads if you are looking to expedite the development of the game, else you might do just fine (but not great) on ads.

    I like that option of being able to fire your weapon from the helo cabin. You've implemented something ArmA players have been craving since the beginning of time, so bravo.

    Is that "z-fighting" going on where your water intersects the land?

    Thanks, we really wanted to be able to allow players also to crawl into the cabin when on the ground (without having to actually enter the vehicle ), and indeed did have it this way for a while, but alas these players prevented the vehicle from getting off the ground due to a whole host of networking issues, yada yada... so it was the least we could do to allow you to shoot out the sides.

    Indeed, I was lazy when I did that filming. Its cause that lake is a simple plane slicing through a part of the terrain I found to look interesting as a lake when playing with that plane's Y axis. What needs to happen now is I need to create a steeper bank in the terrain verts above and under the water all the way around the lake's edge to prevent the z-fighting when at higher altitudes. Its why you see a lot of games create a steep incline in the terrain just at the edge of large bodies of water that meet terrains.

    very nice project!!

    yo should review the tank turrets because they moove extremmelly fast at the speed of the mouse. The turrets are moved by an engine that has a max speed. Check the Anna News videos with the cameras on board of the tank turrets to feel what I mean.

    Should give it a more motorized feel with axis locking while under turrent movement as well.

    Question to other developers.

    Would you guys rather us start to provide music filled videos, or continue on the with the commentary in the tech demos?
    I ask because we were hoping to use this thread to get suggestions and ideas and spark conversation from other developers, and thus we commentated our tech videos; but if this is just not working for everyone, please let us know!!

    Also, would you rather us start to showoff some of our internal hand rolled solutions for unity over the finalized content here?

    We want to hear more for this community if you have questions or concerns, anything.

    I think ATV needs dust particles under the wheels! Also muzzle flashes seem a little too big. Also I really like your map, did you do it yourself?

    Personally I think commentary is better if you are just showing some new feature. But if you are doing a demo match for example then you can just crank up music and show your skillz :)

    @Cheburek, great idea we will add that as well, and now that you mention it, looks like we had an issue with the muzzle flashing being spawned from the wrong location, we are fixing that as well.

    Thanks for the video feed back, was starting to feel like we were talking to an obis there for a bit :)

    Lastly, no this particular level was not developed by us, it's the Afghanistan package available on the asset store. That said though, a ton of modifications to it have been made to run under 150mb of vram usage by us and our custom rolled solutions.

    It looks really nice. I'm guessing that your motivation was the battlefield series and those are my favorite games of all so I can't wait to check this out when it's done.

    Thanks! Truth be told yes we have examined lots of BF and COD titles during the development. Strangely enough most of the new stuff under 2.0 was requested, hashed over and ultimately implemented purely through about two years of feedback from our 1.0 title's players. In a way, our players are the ones who are driving the direction of what the game has become, so its kinda cool to see it panning out finally. :)

    Really good!!. The plane feels a bit as if it lacks inertia or so, making it feel extremelly lightweight.

    Love the moment when the flares came out when the missile from copter is shot.

    Great project.

    Because we are such a small team we don't have the resources yet to announce a date, but we are trying to get open beta up and out asap. Within the next month or two I would assume.

    Yet another great point, we will play with the weight and lift, maybe give the first person camera a little springing as well to give the feel of g-forces. I think adding a little post processing motion blur would help a lot as well.

    You won't be able to pull a cobra maneuver with our current airplane physics. However, we do have multi-passenger planes.

    Can you Tell us when you Guys are going to Release Combat Extreme 2.0. (( ?? )) Is in this game has 'Log out' Button We Really Need that. The Combat Extreme 2.0 is Free to play or we have to pay Money to play..? is in this game has premium options. to Unlock Gun Other stuff.?? Plz Dont Put that :p .

    No we still can't give a date; again we are such a small team that we still don't give exact dates yet, but we truly appreciate the anticipation from our fans and are approaching our beta release fast as our hands will let us.

    The game is going to be setup and served much differently than the current 1.0. To help cut monthly file transfer costs for my brother and I, we have stripped out all our user account options / settings, leader boards, server browser and the store from the .unity3d file that thousands of people download monthly, and integrated into our new website. So yes, there will be a logout option now, as well as personal profiles you can share/customize with friends, clan profiles, clan matching, leader boards etc etc.

    Not only does this help with the main game loading times for webplayers, but means there is no more opportunities of people not getting their weapon purchases (because the purchased are page based, not unity3d based). Also, this means that we now can offer chat rooms, friends list, friend chat boxes beings we are more web based now.

    Combat Extreme will always be free to play on web, and all items are available to all/any player who earns them with in game points. That said, we are now offering a full desktop dedicated version that gives people the ability run better graphics, and use more system resources. Desktop versions can also host their own local LAN games / connect and play with web/other desktop players on public servers for a one time low cost. Additionally, all items that are purchased from the store using earned game points, can also be purchased with real world currency.

    We acknowledge that some people may think that allowing others to purchase items with both in-game earned points, and real world currency is not a good idea. However, having taking very special care at making sure nothing will turn this into a pay to win game, we are confident that this feature is going to be used in rare circumstances where players want an item onto of a purchase, and wants it now! With over 100 items, we got you covered at all times.

    Lastly, the only premium option we now offer is around public hosted game servers (for say larger clans who want to have their own server listed on the server browser). This will be a monthly cost now, but will give the sever owner far more control over their listed servers setting through a server admin panel we have built out. Owning a dedicated server is only available to people who have purchased a desktop version, not web players.
