Package is now released and I'm giving away three voucher codes to get it free from the asset store!
In return I want you to tell me why do you need this asset pack? Deadline of the competition is January 29. or when the minimum of three competitors has been exceeded. As a consolation prize there is also 12 voucher codes for

Looks fantastic! I would use it to make an ultra realistic slave vs wild beasts game, with lions, elephants, etc controlled by Ice creature control, with perhaps even some water. It would be more of a survival game (how long can you last), since the slave would only have a stick or something to defend himself.

I have to add, I'm a big fan of Roman history, and I've been reading the works of Plutach, Seneca, and the Edward Gibbon's The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire over the past few years. While I would love to make a game on Rome, it is quite difficult to do for a number of reasons, not least because of the lack of Roman characters in the Asset Store but also the complexity involved in dealing with humans NPC's.

That being said, as I mentioned earlier, a simpler game involving an aspect of Roman life (in this case the animal training and combat) would be both interesting and enjoyable. This I believe is a better option than to try to 'fit' a Roman Colosseum into my current project, which is an African Safari simulator.

Unlike Hollywood portrays animal fighting scenes in movies (particularly 'Gladiator'), animals did not savagely attack slaves and criminals, but in many cases very reluctantly left their cages and more often than not, fled towards the sides of the Colosseum. They were as afraid, if not more afraid than the slaves who were their to face them. This is something I'd like to implement into the game, in order to differentiate it from current 'arcade' gladiator battles.

While I can't say I 'need' this asset (need is a very strong word), I can say I would highly appreciate it. I've bought countless assets from the store these past months and the cost really has started to add up, therefore I'm trying to limit purchases to those which are only absolutely essential; however the Colosseum is one I would really like to have, not least because it looks excellent and I've seen from your other work that you clearly pay a high level of attention to your models.

Just a reminder that the game is still on. Only one entrant so far, so the chances for winning this ultimate prize are still very high indeed :D

The arena looks great, I added it to my wish list a few days ago ;).

I would use it to serve as a nice arena for my game which will be a blend of a couple of games, like god of war, dark souls, among others. It would require some tweaking to work in an isometric game, but it would not be that much work I think. How many different materials are used? And how many meshes does the structure consist of? I could always go the lazy way and throw in a bunch of random props at the bottom of the arena to make it off limits otherwise.

    Cool! Thanks for the entry!

The amount of materials depends on which type of materials do you want to use. There are materials with included ambient occlusion and materials without them. If you want to use materials with ambient occlusion there are 25 materials (20 for the structure). If you want to bake lighting in unity you only need 13 materials (8 for structure).

After a quick count I calculated there to be 98 meshes on the structure. Most of them are wall pieces of the first row.
There is also mesh of a smaller version of the same arena in the package which consist of 28 meshes. Large arena is about 120m x 60m and small one is 60m x 30m.

Everything else except the court off the arena is pretty much off limits now, because there are no colliders on anything except ground and sides of the arena. Do you think there should be more colliders?

Thanks for the info. No need for more colliders, it's just that when using an isometric camera, the player will sometimes be hidden behind the structure unless I make it transparent. I think I will go with the lazy approach and make those areas non-traversable by throwing in some different suitable objects.

Well, I will bite then since I saw this the other day and thought how perfect it would be for our game. :)

Part of our game is a beautiful city, built in a medieval Italian style. The city is a planned city, the result of a treaty by several kingdoms to create a "neutral" zone. I want it to be magnificent, rich with color and design. I imagine an organized city, Italian stone, archways, etc. When I noticed your arena asset, my first though was how well this would fit into my city. I know it has a more Roman feel, but an organized, planned city would probably also have that "Roman" look to it, especially made of stone.

We have extensive lore and one of the features in our lore is an arena in the city, used for games and contests of strength, and maybe other social gatherings. Our game concentrates on community building in a role play setting so public areas will be very important. This could be a very nice addition as well as a feature in the city. It also looks like it would be nice for optimizing, using occlusion to help create a place where larger crowds could gather.

It is a beautiful piece of work, and I would say that even if this wasn't a contest. :) Very nice job and something that isn't seen often here.

Oh, not that ambitious. :) It is completely doable. I have been working in indie gaming for a long time and know better than to be TOO ambitious. lol Fortunately, I have a few programmers and some artists on the team to balance my skills.

    Odd project alert:
I would use it for a wave survival mode with time travel. i.e first 2 waves are cavemen, then the gladiator arena, medieval, then civil war era, world war era, modern, futuristic.
So basically it would have progressively more intense combat as you progressed, not artificially making it harder :)

Didn't take it that way. :) Ambitious is a good word but sometimes, at least here, it means we took on more than we can chew. Of course, better to be ambitious and fail than never to try, right?
