My Project Settings window says "Currently tracked: 42 shaders 103 total variants." When I click the "Clear" button (whose tooltip says, "Clear currently tracked shader variant information."), I expect those numbers to change. But they don't.

I don't think I have anywhere near that number of shaders/variants in my scene. Can anyone help me understand this?

Hmmm... It appears to have no effect in 2019.1.7f1, but it does lower the count when I click it in 2017.3.0f3.

    A bug?

Thank you so much for following up with what you found! Still have this bug in 2019.2.6f1.

It's still bugged in 2019.3.6f1 but this post saved me quite some frustration: Disabling the async compilation is a valid workaround.
