Hello, firstly, I am new to Unity, so I know I have to at least cover the basics before I even consider doing more advanced stuff, but I have a goal i wish to achieve, and may as well start gathering information about it.
I enjoy many games, but for some relaxation I do tend to go to games like Forge of Empires, The Sim City series, and The Civilization series. I enjoy the tech building aspects, and the city planning aspects of those games, and for some time I have had in mind my own version of a game, closer based to FoE, where you have a grid, and pre-planned buildings that either produce things, or have effects on the city.

My game is a lot more sci-fi too, as I am a sci-fi fan. The 'story' premise is this. You are the leader of a colonist group who, like the old american settlers going west, have sold all they own to make it to a new world to settle it and when you land, all you have is the capsule and what came with it to start a new city.

My idea also, is that that, each age is an age of the colony, starting with 'the Arriving' where the 'town hall/palace/etc' is the capsule and several building as one 'building', and as each era passes the capsule evolves, keeping remnants of what it was originally, but having additions made, and removing things, such as the original 'homes' as it becomes less of a community building, and more of the government center.
You would build up the city with new tech, and buildings, raising money, and production points, and other stat bonuses.

I have a lot of idea's and I do a lot of concept sketches for buildings and characters, so i kind have a good idea of a lot I want to happen in it. And while I slowly get up to speed on unity in my spare time, I would be greatful for any input anyone may have, or links to tutorials on how to put one together so I can review them as I get better.

thank you for reading, and any help you offer :)

Cities: Skylines was a Unity game. You can always have a look and see how they did it.
