Question Choose your own adventure type game questions

Hi, I'm a writer and I don't know anything about game development. I've been thinking about making a choose your own adventure type text based game with some "complex" elements like health and damage system, stats, a shop etc. I tried using yarn spinner but I got some errors and the tutorials on it are a little outdated so I gave up on in. Are there any tutorials and tools you would suggest to a complete beginner? How should I start out? Thanks.
