This is a variation on the XRay shader from the wiki with a very small tweak to mimic a gem shader. It's not nearly as impressive or easy to use as the wiki gem shader, it's only good point is that just like the xray shader it is very cheap to render.

Limitations: I've noticed that it is very difficult to colour this material correctly and it can be awkward to make it match a lit environment. It's also not "reflective" or "refractive" in any way as it's only a fresnel effect.

It'll work for highly luminous, reflective, transparent surfaces (i.e. pick ups) either as a low level of detail material replacement, or in scenes when there are too many objects to use the much nicer gem shader sensibly. For more realistic gems, use the gem shader.
