I know what do you mean. Every single game have his FOLDER and his SHORTCUT (icon). I think, that you can just create a code that gives player a option to create shortcut on the desktop while installing.

I think you mean that the EXE file (with the icon on it) should be the only file. So the YourGame_data directory should be inside the EXE.

It is a little bit confusing that this data directory must be there (because it looks much better if there is only one file) but in this directory are your assets/scripts/etc.

I think you can say the EXE (wich looks like your icon) is only the player. Your game is inside this data directory. The is no (easy) way to hide this dir execpt if you have a installation-application thet installs your game in the Windows program directory. Then, your data dir is there but the user see it only if he is visiting this directory. Normal users only start the game with the shortcut.

An other way could be to make a Bundle Application thet ships your game in it's binary resouces. Then, if you want to play, it extract your game (f. E. to the Application Data/Roaming Directory or in the tmp-dir.)

But this could be a very hard way, because you must recreate the whole directory-hierarchy when you extract the game.

This way is like the Minecraft laucher, except that the Launcher download the game files from the internet.

I hope I have helped you.
