Change Texture Quality breaks textures

    Hi guys.

    This is working fine in the editor but when I make a build this problem appears. When I change QualitySettings.masterTextureLimit some textures change into something else. As you can see, the ground takes the texture from the bike Metallic texture.

    Anyone has this problem?

    Yes and, as I said, it works fine on the editor. One interesting thing - The texture of the ground changes depending on the objects that are on the scene. If I put my character there, the ground loses the albedo (goes white) but mantains the normal map with the different qualities. One other thing, the textures that change, only change if the object is active.

    Reporting the same issue after upgrading to 5.3.1p1 from 5.2.3. Changing QualitySettings.masterTextureLimit breaks texturing completely in a windows standalone build. masterTextureLimit works fine in editor.

    Most of our textures don't have mipmaps, but both settings have worked fine in the past.

    EDIT: set all textures to generate mipmaps but the issue is still there.

    I am encountering the same issue on a build with Unity 5.3.1p1.

    It occurs whenever I either change the Quality Level or the texture quality (masterTextureLimit):
    • QualitySettings.SetQualityLevel(..);
    • QualitySettings.masterTextureLimit = ...;

    bump~ anyone got ideas how to solve this? else i need to use default unity change resolution dialogue box

    Just tried Unity 5.3.1p3 and this game-breaking bug still there :(

    We're getting this same thing! Nice to see that I'm not alone

    It works great in the editor

    I would like to hear something from the unity guys. One problem is that I could not reproduce the bug in a clean project so it's a bit difficult to send a bug ticket.

    It would be great to get some form of acknowledgement from Unity about this bug because currently there's no workaround to changing the quality settings or the texture quality at runtime; only at the start with the dialog box.

    We are having exactly the same problem with our project. It would be great to have a response from Unity.

    No fix in Unity 5.3.2p1 either...so I still need to leave both Shadow Quality and Texture Quality disabled from my Game Options to prevent the UI from breaking :(:(

    Yup, and resolution and fullscreen mode too.......At least this two they said that will be fixed on 5.4 but I heard nothing about this problem from unity

    You're right, I was wrong. I got confused because previously certain textures were becoming black, and those did not turn black when I tested now (but other textures did). So, this issue is still very much here.

    As promised, here's an update on this case: I just spoke with Joachim (our CTO). I'll have a call with him next Monday, as he's already working on a refactoring that will fix this issue. I'll keep you all posted.

    Hello all,

    Another update on this case. I spent the last couple of days focusing exclusively on this bug and found out that the error message of "Unity trying to reload asset from disk that is not stored on disk" and the garbled textures are actually separate issues. I have submitted fixes for both issues about an hour ago, which are now under review by the area owners here in Unity. I'll keep you posted on the results.

    The fix is unfortunately not included in the Unity 5.3.3f1 update.

    Indeed, the fix hasn't made it to the public releases yet, though luckily it's been approved internally. I'll post an update in this thread once I can confirm the exact version or patch release when it will become available.

    This appears to be happening in 5.4 beta 10 on OSX. Is the fix in for 5.4 betas yet?

    Edit: Nevermind, just saw it was in the release notes for beta 11. Thanks.

    Similar issue started happening to me today, but wasn't happening yesterday. Waiting for approval to download an update :(
