You're right ! I provided a new version that listens to the Observer forum and only changes the correct div.class to avoid the broken button

 

The $$anonymous$$ problem is atleast bearable if you semi-know what you're doing, you can figure out what the missing text is. What's far worse is all the comments have no text now. I checked the network response in Chrome and its not a displaying issue, the text just doesnt come back in the response from unity's server...

 

It's 2023 and this still is a thing...

Development tools such as Unity are only as good as their community, and they let a massive piece of the community rot away like this, it's honestly just sad to see.

Not sure if it's true, but I got this from someone I know in Discord:

There were rumors that a Unity3D intern wanted to test and learn JavaScript, and the first thing he did was replace a random greeting like "hi" with $$anonymous$$. He forgot to undo this change and accidentally pushed this to production when pushing some other feature. Unfortunately that intern is no longer at Unity, so it's not known where this code change happened and since it's not in version control, we cannot rollback the Unity answers to a good state.​

 

That doesn't sound very plausible.

 

Look like your Webteam took 2 years for nothing, cause this issue still appear.

Yet, here we are, 3 years later.

I had always assumed this was a sign that Unity was abandoning it entirely so I'm consistently surprised every time I end up there and realize it still isn't dead. Unity Answers was always a terrible clone of the StackExchange format anyhow. The lack of proper moderation has almost turned it into Yahoo Answers. Can't tell you how many "answers" I've come across that should either be comments or ask new questions entirely. Which I don't necessarily fault the users for.

In theory, it's a wonderful structure. But in practice it's a hot mess without community moderation. Which Unity never seemed to care about. So I avoid it like the plague and always rely on StackOverflow and GameDev instead. The fact that Unity cares so little they can't even be bothered to assign an intern to fix the formatting is just one more straw on an already broken camel's back.

This topic also sums up how annoying a daily "bump still happening" pattern is. Somebody at Unity says they're trying to put resources to the task. Bumping this stupid thread is not gonna get it fixed overnight. Use the workarounds other people have already sprinkled in the thread.

This is truly a bizarre and frustrating problem, that would seemingly be fixed with a single SQL statement or thereabouts.

This makes no sense at all given that Unity officially required us to report issues in the forums (starting about 4? years ago, and then a big official push last year - reporting bugs they changed the automated responses you get to explicitly say "report this in the unity forums instead"), and that Unity prioritizes them based on people bumping them on the forums.

(I report a lot of bugs. I am not happy that Unity tried to force bug-reporting to re-route via these forums - it's a terrible way to manage product development - but I think it's deeply unfair to berate people for doing what Unity has beeing pushing them to do)

It's been more than 750 days since the Unity web team started looking into this. Maybe someone should check that the team is all right.

 

Was the person responsible for "Not making Unity look completely incompentent in public" recently laid off?

 

This is crazy. I just looked it up on Google after getting irritated enough with the damned string showing up everywhere and I'm stunned to see this is a 3 year old problem.

For instance, all occurrences of "hi" get replaced by it, so "this" turns into "t$$anonymous$$s". Super annoying.

 

I have seen this for the past however many years now, as with everyone else. I honestly thought it was just some weird discrepancy with my browser and never bothered to look it up, just trudged through it, replacing lines of code with what seemed appropriate, or to decipher message. Today I decided to look up the fix, only to read all of this. I had no idea every single user saw this.

Luckily, the script from the github page above works great, at least on Firefox with Tamper Monkey.

 

It's crystal clear that they fxxked up Unity Answer's database and the original text has been lost. I hope this thread gets more visibility so the new devs will think twice before adopting Unity for their next project.

This is really nice to have a custom handmade solution, but I don't want to run Tampermonkey and allow more access to plugins... Unity need to fix this once and for all, this is beyond insanity to let it go rampant for this long.

Its crystal clear they are fxxked everything. For years with Unity I see only a lot of cringe and feel a lot of pain. I just hate those guys. They even prefer to make look like they don't see our threads, hiding from us on their own service. LOL.
