    Hi @UnityMaru. This is still happening, over a year after your post. What happened with the web team? Cheers.

    Don't worry. Unity will fix it in another couple of years maybe. They operate on Unity Time (tm). Even Valve are like 'wtf?'

    Actually this was a single event after they "started working on UA again". See this recent thread on UA. We don't know what they actually did, but in a single event ALL previous comments on all questions got wiped out. A day later new comments started working again, but the content of all old comments has been cleared. However I still have hope since I can actually click on the revision history of any of those comments and see the whole history of the comment. Just the actual content is somehow gone. So in theory they could restore all those comments from the latest revision. Though we are in this state for almost 3 weeks now.

    I'm on UA for a quite long time and I have observed at least 4 "events" where after years of inactivity some "staff" made "improvements" (which means some major break ups) and just disappeared in the dust again for years. Each of those improvements made the site worse. Just a couple of months ago they had the great idea to shut down UA for good. After the backlash from the internet they paddled back :)

    I'm / was really looking forward to see some actual improvements for UA. Though currently it doesn't look like anything has changed compared to the last years...

    Anyways, I'm still fighting off spam bots (with massive help from @gjf who's reporting posts like crazy) on a daily basis on UA in between my normal work. I just hope they can actually restore the comments in the DB. I posted like twice the amount of comments than answers. Around 2012 I had written a crawler and copied UA partly into my own mysql db. Though even back then the amount of users and posts grew faster than I was crawling :) At some point something broke due to a change and I stopped. Now I only have a tiny fraction of what was posted on UA. The information also has drastically changed so it would be difficult to pick up where I left off. In theory I could extract every post from the revision history, however only in some reduced form. To actually get the post relationships you would need pull information from several places. We have almost 2 million "posts" on UA. Crawling this from scratch would take ages.

    Yeah I just noticed it when finding a relevant answer to my problem. I don't know why they let a good source of information just degrade to nothingness. At least back everything up and make it read only

    Ye, seems like it broke again or is worse, $$anonymous$$ is now "hi", script to fix it had "M" instead.

    I just updated the userscript. It now works with 'hi' cases.
    You can install it or force update from the repo page.
    https://github.com/murphyne/unity-answers-anonymous

    As a side note. I did a quick search through Unity Answers. It looks like all previously broken words (containing 'M', 'min', 'tea', 'K') are not broken anymore.

    Ok, this is getting ridiculous. It's 2023.
    I don't know what UA database looks like, but...
    "SELECT id, text FROM answers WHERE text LIKE '/%/%anonymous/%/%' ESCAPE '/';"

    After which it can be done even by hand in a week by a few guys for 5 bucks.

    Does Unity not realize that leaving this unfixed is active degrading one of the main assets? The strength of the community and the ability to find answers is a massive asset to Unity. For more than TWO YEARS now they have failed to fix this bizarre and indefensible issue.

    I can't imagine any reasonable explanation for this kind of negligence and oversight. Guys. This is not acceptable.

    Wow, found this thread by googling $$anonymous$$.

    It shows how Unity are running the show here. Abysmal support. Mind you, even if they did fix it, it would be in preview for the next few years.

    Jesus how hard can it be for a company to change its bad language filter? You program a goddamn game engine smh
    Searching for anything related to Unity Answers is a pain in the goddamn ass if you have to now also spend time decrypting half the answers.

    very badbaddybadbad from Unity Technologies, since the company has been managed/defacto taken over by Americans things continue getting worse, Unity is , even if you dont believe it, German Engineering in its core and as it is currently managed and handled by the "new owners" makes it look very very bad.
    No offence @Unity but you have to get back to the roots or things will get out of hand completely.
    It seams to be the words in Unity Forum and Documentation texts getting replaced by $$anonymous$$ increase slowly but steady

    Today is my first unity forums post. Not because I couldn't find an answer to my problem - but because the answers which I have always relied upon are significantly difficult to read and learn from.

    This issue undermines one of Unity's biggest strengths; accessibility to community content.

    Toss my name into the list of disgruntled users.

    (The above was done on purpose. Unbelievable that Unity hasn't addressed the problem for so long.)

    We could add $$anonymous$$ to our comments on Unity social media feeds. Would be good to kick it off with a polite explanation. Anyone an influencer?

    We should create a subset of English that avoids using the problematic letters combinations, and exclusively use that subset in Unity Answers. Any linguist here? :D

    I have to replace "$$anonymous$$" with "hi" in every text at answers.unity.com with my eyes. It hurts...
    But seems its possible to fix it with user script in Chrome, lol

    Here is my script for Tampermonkey
    Code (JavaScript):
    1. // ==UserScript==
    2. // @name         Unity $$anonymous$$ fix
    3. // @namespace    http://tampermonkey.net/
    4. // @version      0.1
    5. // @description  Replace "$$anonymous$$" with "hi" at answers.unity.com
    6. // @author       $$anonymous$$ xD
    7. // @match        https://answers.unity.com/*
    8. // @grant        none
    9. // ==/UserScript==
    10.
    11. (function() {
    12.     'use strict';
    13.
    14.     var posts = document.getElementsByClassName('post');
    15.     for (var i = 0; i < posts.length; i++) {
    16.         posts[i].innerHTML = posts[i].innerHTML.replaceAll('$$anonymous$$', 'hi');
    17.     }
    18. })();

    The only Unity employee that commented on this thread now works for Epic Games :D

    After they tried to shut down Unity Answers, I think it's safe to say this won't get fixed.

    In Firefox, you can install the FoxReplace add-on. Then, go to Options... and add the following configuration. Finally, in the add-on drop-down menu, check the Apply automatic substitutions on page load entry.

    New to unity, I decided to make a game, using UA as a guide to get started, and just wow. 2 years of this. This is the kind of issue that will discourage new users who don't have any kind of experience of working around issues like this. Poor management and clear negligence.

    I dont understand why you use so much REGEX, just write this :

    document.body.innerHTML = document.body.innerHTML.replace(/\$\$anonymous\$\$/g, "hi");

    On the other hand, is it possible to apply this script on "answer.unity.com" ? Like that it will not try to analyse each webpage we use

    Hi, because it's not always "hi" who is $$anonymous$$ there are also Mathf and Min for example.
    For the exclusion of only Unity Answer this is already the case.

    Scripts that modify ‘innerHTML’ will break event listeners on the page. At the very least, they break ‘Add comment’ and ‘Show/Hide’ buttons. Some scripts also ignore asynchronously loaded content, such as comments. But the comments are currently broken in its own way.
