(Case 977628) Unity editor 'Work Offline' does not work

    The Unity editor does not start, if no internet connection is available.

    The "Unity Launcher" opens a "No network connection" dialog and displays a "Work Offline" button. Clicking this "Work Offline" button, quits Unity.

    This video shows how the Launcher behaves when the internet connection is not available.


    This video shows how the Launcher behaves when disabling the network connection.


    Both videos show that Unity handles these cases differently. In both cases, opening the editor "in offline mode" is not possible.


    Reproduce
    • Break your internet connection, but keep local network working (like in video1.mp4)
    • Open Unity 2017.3.0f2
    • Click "Work Offline" in the "No network connection" dialog
    • Click "Work Offline" in the "Sign into your Unity Account" dialog
    Observe Unity just quits.


    Expected
    Unity must open if there is no internet connection, but one was available a few minutes earlier.
    Perhaps run this verification step only, if no internet connection was available for longer than a week?

    Thanks for the videos. It really helps to see the problem. I asked the Launcher team to look at your message and they should report it quite soon.

    Hi Peter,

    Thank you very much for reporting this issue. We just fixed this issue locally and are preparing to fix it in the next release along with a few problems found around offline experience in the launcher. I'll let you know when the fix is released.
