Bug Cant see large thumbnails of sprites in Editor project view.

    I have Unity 2022.3.3f1 LTS
    I am trying to see the thumbnails from Sprite that i have in the project but they don't show up in Large size. I tried the same from the inspector by selecting the sprite picker from UI image. When you select a sprite from the sprite picker you can't see the sprites previews (they show up randomly).

    Did you delete the library folder to clear the cache?
    If yes, does this also happen in a blank project?
    If yes, make a bug report

    Yes, i deleted the Library folder, but the problem remains. also, I have tested in the same project in a different pc, and again the same issue. Then I opened a new project, copied my Assets and so far so good everything worked until I set the Render pipeline asset settings from "None" to "Balanced". So on None, the sprite picker, and in editor Project view, I could see the sprite templates... but as soon i set the URP settings from none to something else (Balanced, performant) .... I stop showing we the thumbnails and the preview of images

    I have the same problem. A random percentage of the resource's thumbnails causes problems.

    Also, to highlight the problem, you can see from the screenshot the difference between the thumbnail view from Project view, and the Search View with full zoom-in. in project view for some reason, thumbnails are not visible in a full zoom-in state. the same problem appears in the Sprite picker.

    Hmm, I know that we had similar issues with Prefabs before that their previews weren't showing up (Which should be fixed), I tried looking in hopes to find if this issue was already reported, but couldn't find any :(

    Would you kindly please report this issue via the Bug Reporter?

    Please make sure to write the exact steps needed to be taken so that the reproduction would be visually seen. Also make sure to attach a reproduction project and any visual material so that when testing our CQA team can verify that they got the same results. If you can, please use this template:

    How to reproduce:
    1. Open the attached project
    2. Do this
    3. Do that
    4. Select this
    5. Observe that

    Expected result: Something is visible, something is printed or something happens
    Actual result: The opposite of what I expect happens

    Reproducible with: Editor version I am using (e.g: 2021.3.xf1)

    Reproduced on: The OS I am on (e.g: Windows 11, macOS Ventura 13.1 (Intel/Silicon))

    Thanks for your response, I just reported the bug, but in case you want to see the issue, I attached a video here, sorry for bad quality compression, but the main issue is visible in Sprite/Textrue thumbnails

    Good morning KinghtFan, the issue you attached here looks different, because i don't have issues with previewing the prefabs. The preview windows works well for me for all asses (sprites, textures, prefabs, models). My issue is with textures assets thumbnails only.

    Hey subkiro,

    Just an update, your case was picked up and was reproducible, currently it's in the process of final touches on the testing and being sent to the developer teams. :)

    Any updates on this? Its very hard to work like this, we are running Unity 2022.3.0 LTS (MacOS) and this issue is quite big, more than 50% of sprites are just not showing at all:

    Deleted Library as well, still the same issue.

    You even did not tell us what version we need downgrade to, while you are busy with fixing critical functionality issue in LTS version... again...

    If I select all sprites in the project or even half of them: Reset button are inactive

    Not only sprite, texture and material cant see too.
    The large thumbnail will show If the asset is loaded. For example, this asset is in scene, or reimport select, or call AssetDatabase.LoadMainAssetAtPath.
    2021.3.30f1 not fixed.
    The screen shot is in 2021.3.30f1, android platform, URP.

    After many tests
    Disable cache server and reimport all fix this problem in 2021.3.30f1
    But if I enable cache server and reopen project, some of materials will not show

    Still not fixed in 2021.3.30f1 despite it was marked as fixed!
    Nothing changed at all.

    EDIT: So far it seems re-importing the assets now solves the issue in 2022.3.81f. After doing so for one set of assets, they retained their thumbnails even after closing Unity and opening it back up again.
    Edit 2: I had to go back to the 2022.3.7f1 version because .8f1 was horrifically crashing my PC even when idle outside of playmode and not focused. But the good news is that thumbnails of reimported assets still appear to work even though I've gone back a version, albeit are somehow not optimised so it chugs when I scroll through them. This has remained true for me so far after multiple closes/opens of Unity as well as a couple reboots + 24 hours.

    Just downloaded Unity 2022.3.8.1f and it is NOT fixed in there, despite being listed as such.

    While trying the workarounds to see if they worked, I've noticed that scrolling away from loaded assets causes them to load/unload when they enter/exit the visible area of the window. The loading is taking a relatively long time (i.e. long enough for me to notice it).

    I could be 1,000% wrong, but this makes me think that the intent of the Editor is to cache the thumbnails somewhere, and perform UI occlusion culling (no idea if that's how it's always worked).

    Either way it seems to not be loading from cached sources, it looks like its perpetually generating new thumbnails, which is somehow only made possible by clicking on the assets first... if you dont do that you don't even get slow thumbnails.

    Installing the latest version 2021.3.30f1 AND reimporting all the assets fixed the issue for my project.
