    Since b3 every time i open unity, It appears the message "Check for changes" (for unity collab i think), But i had it disabled way long ago in the services window before updating to b3;
then it starts importing assets, resolving packages from the package manager and compilling scripts.

    edit
it seems Version control package is reinstalled after removing it and restarting the editor.
is this package mandatory even if i don't want to use collaborate?

    edit2:

the reinstalation of the package also enabled collaborate in the service window somehow.

edit 3 even if i don't unistall the package, everytime i start unity, Collab is in turned On state
and does the whole process of cheking for changes, resolving packages, importing assets, scripts, etc. annoying.

I get this issue even on 2021.1 - is it caused by the new unity hub?

I'm using the new unity hub 3.0.0 too , maybe its related to that or maybe not.

It’s the ghost of wasted potential, haunting all new Unity versions.

Make sure Collaborate is turned off in the services tab before uninstalling the package.

The culprit was the new unity hub 3.0.0 beta 1, I reverted back to 2.4.4 , and now its fine

Same thing on my end, Hub 3.0.0 would install a bunch of packages every time the project was opened. It also caused some weird package manager errors on editor launch (
    Init must be called first
    ,
[PackageManager] Could not create file at:
, yes, that's the whole message), which resulted in the project opening in safe mode every time, as well as a bunch of more weird asset import and editor behavior problems.

This occurred both with Unity 2021.1.14f1 and 2021.2.0b3. Reverting to Unity Hub 2.4.4 resolved all issues.

We encountered this too and narrowed it down to the hub beta.

This is exactly what happened to my project. Same two error messages, and Safe Mode dialogs and longer import times every time I open my project!

Thanks for saving me from a support ticket! :)

Faced a similar problem. The project is connected to UnityAnalytics, other services are turned off. After enabling Unity Hub 3.0.0 Beta, the project is launched in Safe Mode. This enables Collaborate, which was not enabled. Disabling Collaborate fails. When the project is restarted, Safe Mode is returned and Collaborate is enabled. Disconnecting the project from services does not help either, when restarting everything is connected back. Came back to Unity Hub 2.4.4, running normally. Unity version 2020.3.10f1

    Hi everybody,

The Hub team is aware of this issue and investigating.

For me it fails only on projects with enabled IAP. Other projects are opening fine

Finally! I've been pulling my hair out for 2 days trying to google all the new stuff that never used to happen to my project. 2019.4.20f1 here. Love the new look of the hub, but I can revert until this gets fixed. Man, I was getting worried!

    * for the record, I am a solo dev and collaborate started turning itself on even when I removed it from my project. every time I started my project it jumped through a bunch of progress bars, and for some reason would revert the path for farland skies in project settings.
Confirmed revert to hub 2.4.4 no longer has issues!

Thank you so much for this tread. At this point Collaborate works like malware. For some reason it always creeps up and slows everything down. I don't know why I'm having this problem time and time again. This is now the 3rd time in my history of using Unity that a bug enables Collab itself! Why??

At this point I'm starting to shame the devs for this. This is just unacceptable. It wouldn't be such a problem, if Collab isn't such slow trash but for some reason you are not able to make this work after all this years. As you have clearly given up, I did the same thing in using it, so stop inserting it as default.

After reverting to Unity Hub 2 my project opens again in 3 seconds instead of 1,5minutes...
Oh, and it opens without any errors and with the safe-mode popup again. I was already wondering what's wrong with this as my project doesn't have any errors. And all this in a project that has like 250mb.
