Seems I can no longer delete previous build folders. Just doing a normal windows build on a windows machine - no cloud services or anything, that I know of, managing or that should be locking them. Unity 2019.3.14f1

I'm trying to just delete them from a windows file explorer - seems I don't have permission. If I try as my user account, says I need admin. If I try to delete as admin, says I need permission from my user account....????

I've tried a reboot and tried deleting before I even open Unity after a reboot, no luck.

Can't find any way to delete them from within Unity - have searched here for answer, its probably here somewhere but no luck finding it.

    Thanks

Where is your project stored? On the C drive? Can you move it to another drive?

Not on C, just a regular data drive.
Just tried this on a small test project - did a build, couldn't delete it. Tried to move that project to another drive - after the move was done the build folder in the original directory was still there, so even a windows 'move' couldn't delete it....

Great! Let's wipe the entire drive to make sure one folder is actually deleted...
Do not use all these supposedly "handy" software that you'll find everywhere on the web.

Are you sure you have full permission on the drive where you installed your project? No viruses either? When was the last time you checked your drives using chkdsk?

Backup anything needed on the data drive, and then format the drive. Then try again. File permissions aren't really a Unity thing. It just assumes you actually have permissions to do what you are trying to do. If those permissions are screwed up because of unexpected permissions settings in a parent folder, or with how your user itself is configured, there isn't much for Unity to do about it.

I was digging some more in to this and found the unity install itself had very restrictive permissions set (ie: the folders in C:\Program Files) - so since Unity itself was running with restrictions, so were the files created in build folders. I had to manually overwrite the Unity and Unity Hub folders to have full access and it seems to have fixed it. No idea how this happen, I guess the Unity installer itself created the install that way and seems like a hack to get it to work.

You can choose where to install Unity.

Sorry to necrobump but this is happening to me. Can't move or delete build files. Can you provide guidance regarding the method you used to fix it, dhenion?
